23. I really like her

Harry’s P.O.V

I wrapped my arm around Ally, rubbing her back comfortingly. She left down sobs to the best of her ability, and I could only imagine how she felt. That had been her first kiss since Damen.

“Ally,” I stand up, pulling her with me, my arm still secure around her waist. “Come on.”

I take her to our room, her eyes never leaving the floor. I had seen the way she froze when Liam kissed her. She was no doubt, remembering all of the times Damen kissed her. I remembered right after the assault, when ever little thing reminded her of Damen. She could not even go outside without becoming terrified.

I open the door for her, slowly taking her to her bed. I sat her down, and she didn’t move. She just sat there, like a statue, on the edge of her bed, staring blankly at the wall in front of her.

I felt so angry. Angry about everything- how Damen messed everything up, how Liam dared to kiss Ally. And how I had no control over anything. It was their fault that Ally was so terrified to the world, and scared out of her mind about ever loving again. Ever since that day, Ally has never been the same.

I remembered how she used to go swimming; but now, with that huge scar that ran down her neck, she didn’t dare get wet. She didn’t want anyone to see the scar.

I turned to leave the room, ready to ask Liam what the hell he was thinking.

“Harry,” Ally whispered. “Please.”

I rushed back over to her, gently sitting down next to her. I brushed the hair off, of her face and swept it over her shoulder. “What do you need?”

“Please, Harry. Don’t do anything stupid; I like Liam. I have a feeling that he will make me truly happy again.” She leaned against me, resting her head on my shoulder.

“Alright, Ally. If you like him all that much, I’ll let him live.” I jokingly whisper into her hair, running my fingers through it as I used to do when we were kids. Whenever she was scared, she used to ask me to brush her hair; she said the best feeling in the world was to have her hair brushed.

She smiled, closing her eyes. I could tell that she was about to fall asleep, as she always got very still when she was about to pass out. Her breathing slowed and her head rolled off, of my shoulder.

I laugh softly, gently laying her down on her bed. She was exhausted from everything that happened today, and it was only noon. Pulling the cover over her, I gazed down at her sleeping body. Her chest rose and fell quietly, and her curly hair had fallen away, revealing that long, pink scar. It wasn’t thin or straight, but rather wide and jagged. The doctors said that it would never go away, and that it was so thick because it was finally stitched up hours after it happened. The jaggedness had come from Damen’s shaking hand as he brought the knife down on Ally’s tan skin.

I closed my eyes, blocking all of the memories from resurfacing again. The longer I didn’t think about it, the longer I stayed sane.

Giving Ally a kiss on her forehead, I walked out of her room to be faced with Liam awaiting me in the hall. I shut the door as quietly as possible and turned to face him. After spending that short amount of time with Ally just now, I realized that Liam was probably good for her. If anyone could heal her, it would be Liam.

“Harry, I’m so sorry.” Liam paused. “I shouldn’t have kissed her when you said that Ally was off limits. However, I just cannot help it. The feelings I have for her- I just can’t put them into words!” Liam smiled just talking about her, and it was then, knew that he was the right one for her. But I didn’t tell him that I was okay with this; I wanted to see what he had to say.

I kept a straight face. “Why should I trust you not to hurt Ally? She is my cousin, Liam. I need to protect her from being hurt again.”

Liam opened his mouth and it looked like he was about to say something, but he couldn’t find the right words. He shook his head, exasperated. “I can’t explain it, Harry! It’s just- the love that I have for Ally is- it’s everything to me! I would never do anything to hurt her!”

“So, you love her? You truly love her?”

He nodded quickly. “With everything I have.”

“I remember you saying that about Danielle when you started dating. Who’s to say that you won’t find someone else in a few years that you love more than Ally?” I crossed my arms.

“Harry, you don’t understand!” He answered angrily. “What I had with Danielle, it was puppy love! But I didn’t know that at the time; I thought that what I was feeling for her was everything. But, that day at school, when I first saw Ally… it changed how I saw the world. Everything was better, knowing that she even existed. Now, what I feel with Ally, I know is the full capacity of my heart. I could never love another thing more, or even equally, than her. You have to believe me, Harry.”

I sighed, realizing that Liam would never do anything to ever cause any harm to Ally. He always treated girls with the upmost care and respect. “So what happened with Dani?”

“We’re just friends now.”

“Fine- by the divine power vested in me as Ally’s cousin, I grant you permission to ask her out on a date.”

Liam cheered, smiling wider than I had ever seen him before. He ran forward and hugged me. “You have no idea how happy you’ve made me!”

I pulled him away. “Listen, I’ve only given you my permission. You have no idea if she’ll even accept the date. Also, if you ever lay a finger on her- you will have me, Ally’s dad and brother to answer to.” I wagged a finger at him, but the grin never left his face.

Zayn’s P.O.V

Ally loved another. I should probably accept this sooner rather than later to save me a lot of pain. The way Liam looked at her showed me that I never stood a chance. I wouldn’t have to worry, though- if Liam ever mistreated her, Niall, Harry and I would tell him off. But I highly doubt that Liam would even raise his voice near her.

Ally was in good hands.

Niall’s P.O.V

It broke my heart to see that.

But if Ally was happy, so was I. Just to see her smile was payment enough. Now, at least I was one-step closer to finding my true princess.

Eleanor’s P.O.V

Back in my own clothes, I escorted a teary Dani to the door. She was quiet when she left the room with Liam, not able to mutter a word. Was she sad? Heartbroken? Furious? I wouldn’t know.

I, on the other hand, couldn’t decide how to feel. Dani, who has been my best friend for so many years, just saw her boyfriend kiss someone right in front of her, and was broken up with. However, I could see that their relationship was ending, having run its due course. They were not as happy as they used to be. The love in Dani’s eyes had dimmed, but Liam’s were still burning bright.

The only thing different about the love in Liam’s eyes was that it burned for a different person now.

I could tell by the way that Liam looked at Lexi that he honestly and truly loved her; and this was sad to say, but I could see that he loved Lexi more than he had ever loved Dani.

“How are you feeling, Dani?” I asked, her as we got in the car.

She weakly smiled at me as she slid into the passenger side. “I’m a bit sad, but this is all for the best.”

“Are you sure?” I turn on the engine and pull out, giving one last glance at the house as we drive away.

“Yeah. I knew that this day was coming; our relationship was fun while it lasted, but it was one of those things that had to end.”

“What do you think of Liam and Ally?” I dare to say his name, peeking at her to see how she was taking it.

Dani took a deep breath at the mention of her ex-boyfriend. “I’ve seen how they look at each other. Though Ally may be scared right now, I know that they’ll end up really happy in the end.”

I nodded, not asking any more questions. I drove home, planning to make a very large, very unhealthy, lunch for Dani. Though she may not admit it, she was sad about the break up. Nevertheless, I think she was right- this is all for the best.
