Silence Is A Virtue

Rhiannon Spencer is just your average 16 year-old teenager: hyper, hates school, argues with her parents every so often, fancies guys WAY out of her league and has serious friendship problems. Of course, being a teen, Rhiannon's diary of every day events seems outrageous, but as the pages turn, more is revealed. Deep inside lies a troubled past, and a girl who's scared of the future.

16. Surpise Visit

Dear Diary,

I had a surprise visit earlier. It's Saturday, so I was sat in bed, eating toast and watching re-runs of Benidorm, minding my own business when mum came upstairs.

"Rhiannon, sweetheart, Josh is here to see you. He's downstairs- he said something about finding a bench?"

"Right... I'll be right down, mum. One sec," I smiled, swinging out of bed and putting my dressing gown on before padding downstairs.

Josh was sat in the living room, talking sports with my dad. I rolled my eyes, leaning against the door frame. Boys. Why do they have a never ending obsession with sports? I cleared my throat loudly, making both of them look up.

"I'll leave you to it," my dad said, ducking out of the room. I exchanged looks with Josh and plopped down on the sofa next to him.

"House call on a Saturday, to what do I owe the pleasure?" I asked jokingly. Josh smiled.

"I wanted to come and see you, see how you're getting on. Is that a crime, Rhi?"

"No. No. I was just wondering. You're usually very busy on a Saturday morning, that's all. Anyway, my mum said something about benches...?"

"I only said it to see if I could get your attention. We aren't going bench hunting, if that's what you're worried about."

"Good. I didn't have you down as a bench hunter," I smiled. Josh laughed. "What did you have in mind then, for today?"

"Well, I was wondering if you'd come with me to my therapy appointment...?"

"Therapy appointment?"

"To help me cope with my parents' divorce. I haven't got anyone to go with, and I thought you'd find it beneficial."

"Yeah, that sounds good. I need to get some stuff off of my chest, about Edmund... and Ethan. I've had him on my mind lately."

"Well, we can help each other through this," Josh smiled. I opened my mouth to reply, when my phone went off to tell me I had a text.

Rhi,

Hve cum down w/a cold. Dnt wnt u 2 catch it, so wnt b cumin ova 2day. Soz. Miss u!

May.xxxxx :)

I'd completely forgotten that Maybelle came over on a Saturday afternoon. I hadn't seen Maybelle in such a long time. She'd been ill for three weeks and then went on Guide Camp and then to London for the weekend, so we'd gotten out of the routine of our Saturday afternoon gossip sessions.

"Let me get dressed. I'll be five minutes."

"When you say 'five minutes' do you mean it or do you mean half an hour?"

"Take a wild guess."

"I'll wait down here," Josh said as I ran upstairs to get changed.

We're on our way to therapy now. I'm quite excited.

Rhiannon. :)
