Silence Is A Virtue

Rhiannon Spencer is just your average 16 year-old teenager: hyper, hates school, argues with her parents every so often, fancies guys WAY out of her league and has serious friendship problems. Of course, being a teen, Rhiannon's diary of every day events seems outrageous, but as the pages turn, more is revealed. Deep inside lies a troubled past, and a girl who's scared of the future.

12. My Luck is Running Out

Dear Diary,

It's a week since Edmund went missing. No one knows where he is. We've scoured every last inch of the twelve mile radius from his house, and still no luck. Where could he possibly be? I tried to get the police involved, but according to his guardians, he's done this before. Many times. And the police never want to get involved. They say it's 'a waste of their valuable time'.

'Valuable time' my arse. I've never heard such rubbish in my entire life. Time is valuable, and we're losing time by sitting around and doing nothing! I'm losing valuable time with my boyfriend, who I was lucky enough to get after a traumatic few years. And now he's gone.

Everything was going so right, I'd been so lucky to be getting back on my own two feet, but it appears that my luck is running out. It's like I'm being punished for being so naive all those years ago; it's as if Ethan is making me pay for ratting him out. Don't I deserve a little sympathy? Don't I deserve the new life I dream about? What did I do that was so wrong that has now chased away the one good thing that's happened to me since Ethan?

Oh, toffee apples, I'm crying again. That's all I've done since Edmund went missing. I hope he comes back. I don't know how much more I can take of not knowing whether he's alive or dead. It's tearing me apart. I feel like my heart is being torn in two, shattering into a million tiny pieces.

Edmund, where are you?

Rhiannon.
