Silence Is A Virtue

Rhiannon Spencer is just your average 16 year-old teenager: hyper, hates school, argues with her parents every so often, fancies guys WAY out of her league and has serious friendship problems. Of course, being a teen, Rhiannon's diary of every day events seems outrageous, but as the pages turn, more is revealed. Deep inside lies a troubled past, and a girl who's scared of the future.
When picking the winners, I would like you to take into consideration that I wasn't able to submit the original version of this story, which is Silence is A Virtue, and has over 2000 views, 7 favourites, 6 likes and 28 comments.

20. Head Held High

Dear Diary,

I've done it. I've actually done it. I've seen Ethan, the boy who tried to kill me, and I made sure that he knows that I am my own person.

He was shocked to see me.

"Rhiannon. Hi. I wasn't expecting you so soon," he stammered when he sat down. I looked at him, spite filling my eyes.

"Maybelle told me everything, every single word you said to her. You disgust me, Ethan. How dare you threaten your own sister," I spat viciously. He looked at me, shocked.

"I-I'm sorry, Rhiannon, but I didn't expect her to ask you to come. My sister takes a lot of convincing."

"Threatening, you mean."

"Yeah, I guess."

"Why do you want to see me, Ethan? You saw me nearly every day for the best part of a year. Wasn't that enough?"

"Rhiannon," he started, leaning forward. I moved further back in my chair.

"Don't touch me. You had your chance, Ethan."

"Rhiannon, I've changed. Honestly, I've changed. I love you Rhi, so so much, and I don't know what came over me that night, I don't know why I did what I did. I regret it so much. I never stop thinking about it, never stop wishing that I hadn't done it. We might still be together if I hadn't done it."

"Just say it, Ethan! Rape! Attempted murder! That is what happened! That is what you did to me!" I nearly screamed.

"And I'm sorry!" Ethan retorted. We sat in silence for what seemed like years.

"I'm only here, because I need to get it out of my system. I've started therapy, and I think that seeing you will help me get past what happened, because even though I'm past it, it lives in me, and will always live in me," I said after a few minutes.

"Good. Good for you. At least you're not a criminal."

"You made that decision by yourself, Ethan."

"I know. But since I've been in here, I've made some of the right decisions. I'm moving to a lower security prison next week, on good behaviour."

"Good for you. Where are you moving to?"

"A place that's about an hour's drive from here. I'm looking forward to it actually. Sick of seeing the same four walls of my cell."

"Can't blame you."

There was another awkward silence.

"May said that you had a boyfriend."

"Yeah. I do."

"Anyone I know?"

"It's not really any of your business, Ethan."

"I want to know."

"You won't like what you hear."

"Just tell me!"

"It's Edmund Keer! Okay? Happy now?"

"You're dating that bastard?"

"He has had a hard life, Ethan."

"He beat the shit out of me!"

"You deserved it!"

"He had no right!"

"Like you have no say over my life. I love Edmund and he loves me, and there is nothing you can do about it. I won't be coming again, and I hope you rot in the deepest depths of Hell," I hissed, getting up and walking away with my head held high.

I feel much better as a person now. Now that that bastard knows his place.
