Silence Is A Virtue

Rhiannon Spencer is just your average 16 year-old teenager: hyper, hates school, argues with her parents every so often, fancies guys WAY out of her league and has serious friendship problems. Of course, being a teen, Rhiannon's diary of every day events seems outrageous, but as the pages turn, more is revealed. Deep inside lies a troubled past, and a girl who's scared of the future.

1. Dear Diary...

How do I start this thing? Do I put 'dear diary', or is that too junior school? I don't want to be like Anne Frank and name this thing- correction, you- I don't want to get too attached. I'm only doing this as a New Year's Resolution so I can 'relieve my stress'. I am in top in school, play two instruments and have homework that touches the ceiling, so I think I can definitely say that I'm stressed most of the time. Right, let's get down and dirty.

Dear Diary...

Oh gosh that sounds weird. Never mind. Let's start again.

Dear Diary,

I have been forced by my parents to keep a record of my doings and so I can 'release my stress'. It's all this 'New year, new you' rubbish my mum's been listening to and reading. It really is awful. My best friend, Krissy, she doesn't get this from her parents. Her parents are cool, Rob and Julia. Much cooler than my parents, Colin and Stella. My parents are sooo last year, whereas Krissy's parents are so twenty-first century. They let her do whatever, go where ever, and see whoever she wants. My parents make me come back by eight, or I'm grounded, I'm not allowed to go out without a group of at least three others- no boys- and I'm not allowed to hang out with the popular kids because my parents think they will distract me from my work. They wouldn't. They'd give me inspiration. And- this is a BIG 'and'- I'm not allowed a boyfriend, which is a load of rubbish. I'm sixteen for the love of toffee apples! I am 'of age', so to speak. Although, I do see some sense in my parents' reasoning. Krissy has a boyfriend though. They've been together since they were twelve. They're really cute together. I do get jealous sometimes, but then again, boys are so overrated. They just get in the way and distract me from my work. Although, there is this one boy... But he has a girlfriend and would never; ever fancy me in a million years. He's cool, stylish, gorgeous, mysterious and not to mention in Year 12. An older guy- it's what every girl dreams of. I think. Well, I know how it feels to get my fingers burnt and believe me, I'm not going there again. Guess he'll have to wait. Besides, I've got a heap of Physics to do, must be off.

Rhiannon.
