17. victim 12

first stages of decomposition.

her skin;

purple-ish blue,

partially bruise.

parts where disease

hadn’t yet reached.

yellowish-green,

movies didn’t prepare

for this.

her eyes;

deflating,

turning yellow and glazed.

misshapen and flat,

lifeless.

staring into empty space,

yet she still saw,

no love, no feeling;

just empty.

her mouth;

blackened  and blunt,

almost melting away,

like the black fluid

dripping from her

nose and lips,

rotten and putrefying.

her chest;

flat and decompressed,

yellow where fat wasn’t

quite gone.

ribs holding strong,

though heart beat

long forgotten.

victim 12

just a number,

another dead girl,

stomach slashed open

guts removed

legs hacked off,

raped.

before, after or during?

did she scream?

did she yell?

no one heard.

did she feel

the white hot pain,

tearing through her chest?

my sister’s

brother’s

cousin’s

aunt’s

son’s

twice-removed;

but in a way, aren’t

we all each other’s son?

another girl.

stomach slashed open,

(sew back up)

Guts removed,

(stuff with pig)

Legs removed,

(replace with wax)

such is an

embalming

restoring

my job.

victim 12.

just another

number.
