Tell Her

Tell Her is a novel written from the point of view of a lovable, ditsy lady-charmer; Danny who is impossibly in love with his best friend Ruby. Only her being his friend isn't the only obstacle he has to overcome...

7. The revelation...

“Wait.” Ruby called out to me, her soft melodic voice sent shivers down my spine. “Danny, wait.”

I turned on my heel and shrugged, “What?” I know I sounded harsh, but this was hurting me enough as it was.

“I...I mean, we...” She stammered, she looked down at her feet and sighed, “Brett and I broke up.”

I stared at her for a few seconds, dumbstruck, “You broke up?” She nodded. “Why?” I had a niggling suspicion.

She finally looked up from her feet and sighed, “Why do you think?” She asked, tears welling in her underappreciated brown eyes. “That’s why I’m here... the girls dragged me out...”

“I don’t understand.”

She rolled her eyes and stepped forward, looking through the window once more, “We broke up because I couldn’t get my mind to think of anything but you...” She breathed in a dream like whisper, “After you told me you loved me, I...well, I couldn’t even kiss Brett without feeling sick.”

I looked through the window towards a completely oblivious Rebecca, “Don’t do this if you don’t mean it Roo, I can’t take it.”

She placed her hands on my chest and a weary smile tugged at the corners of her mouth, she stalled for a few seconds as if asking for permission and as though the action was as natural as breathing I pulled her close to me and placed the softest kiss on her lips.

She kissed me back, her lips moving in sync with my own...

“I love you.” She breathed as she pulled away from our first real kiss; her hands were still placed on my chest.
