Alone

This short story is about a chatty 15 year old girl called Mia, who falls in love with a popular guy in her new school who nobody else had ever loved. She had always wanted to the most popular kid in school but not ever getting at least one date and being told by her mum to write everything in her own diary has definitely not helped her. She really wants her hot crush and also her best friend’s (Lilly) brother, to go out with her and asks him, but will it all work out as she had planned?

1. Last day of the holidays

Mia’s diary:

"Sunday 4th September,

Sometimes the only thing I have ever done is lie. My mum has recently been thinking that I have been holding back my feelings from her. She kept asking me “Mia, are you alright?” “I’m fine mum,” I would always say. “No you’re not. You’re definitely hiding something from me.” “No Mum, I am definitely not hiding anything. As long as you are happy, I’m happy.” “OK, I’ll see about that but I don’t think you’re being honest with me,” she says and handed me this diary. She told me she wants me to write down my feelings and everything that happens in my life. OK, I’ll write down my feelings right now: WHY IS SHE DOING THIS TO ME RIGHT NOW?!

As if things aren't already so bad right now, even before my mum made it even worse by telling me to write EVERYTHING down in a diary, because:

- I don't have many friends at all

- I don't have a boyfriend and even worse, I HAVE NEVER HAD ONE

- I’m already well known, NOT for being popular but for being the biggest freak in the entire school. I mean, literally everyone, even Bob, has got a date, except me. That’s the main reason why I am such a freak.

But that was not the only reason why I am known as the school’s biggest freak. I’m already far too skinny for my height, I mean, let’s face it: I am literally the only person who still wears those childish dresses to parties and school discos and my mum had also made me more of a freak. She had actually decided to date my maths teacher, Mr Hughes out of lots of other people. It would have not been so bad if he was the only man around but why did she choose to date an ugly maths teacher when there definitely would have been lots of other better guys than him. It’s a good thing she had been divorced and is now single again, thanks to her and my old dad.

It’s already the last day of the holidays and from tomorrow onwards, I should be ready for another year of being known as the “school’s biggest freak”.  To be honest, I actually wish God would come out and make a few of my wishes true. If that did happen, which probably wouldn’t, I would say to that him:

• “I wish that I would have a hot popular guy as my boyfriend.”

• “I wish I was the most popular girl in the school so that I do not have to be called a freak.”

•  “I WISH MY MUM WOULD STOP DATING MR HUGHES!!” That was never going to happen in my life. Anyway, I’m guessing my mum will not be reading this at all so I will not have to worry about my private life.

So far, all I have been doing all day was sitting down in my bedroom, and writing in this diary. That was what I was doing until my mum shouted out: “Mia, I have forgotten to tell you something important.” After I had heard that and got really annoyed within a few seconds, I walked noisily down the stairs, just to annoy mum back for annoying me in the first place, and asked her “What is it, Mum?”

“Mia, you are actually going to go to a new school tomorrow.” Mum informed me but I did not believe her.

“Are you kidding?!”

“No, I am not kidding, you really are going to move to a new school from tomorrow onwards.”

I was ever so happy when I heard that. I meant about the fact that I WILL NOT BE CALLED A FREAK AGAIN! Unfortunately, I had also realised that could only happen if nobody in my new school found out about my mum dating my old maths teacher and about me not having a boyfriend at all. Fortunately, I think I would be able to get rid of those dresses soon and not wear them ever again.

“Mum, where is my new school?” I asked in case I forgot tomorrow morning.

“Actually, you already know about the school anyway.”

“What school are you talking about?” I asked.

“The school that Lilly and her brother go to.” Mum answered.

“OK, thanks for telling me.”
