Spin the bottle

Is it wrong to like a guy if you’re a guy yourself? I mean like like. Because if it is wrong to just like a guy, I am doing a bad thing right now… very, very bad.

1. Spin the bottle

It wasn’t my fault! It wasn’t my idea to play that stupid game. Personally I blame Dongho. Do you want to know why? Because it was his fault. That’s right. Dongho was ecstatic because his parents were out of town and they had told his older brother, Soohyun, to take care of their precious little jewel. Soohyun on the other hand had no intention whatsoever on spending a quiet evening with his baby brother, oh no. Of course he was planning the party of the century and what would make an annoying tattletale teenage-brother not be a tattletale for once? Promising him that he could be at the party if he in return promised not to rat on his hyung. And of course Dongho had to drag me into it. Why? Because I’m his best friend. Hi. My name is Lee Taemin and I am the best friend of Shin Dongho. You probably don’t know me, since I’m always just standing in the background, but after what happened at that party I am sure everyone has heard of me.

“Come on~!” Dongho begged. “Taemin!”

“I already said I’d go, so I don’t understand why you’re still bugging me.”

“Because you’re not enthusiastic about it!” He pouted. “It’s a party and there’s going to be alcohol and girls and all of my hyung’s friends are going to be there.”

“That’s right, your hyung’s friends,” I threw his own words back at him. “Do you really think they’ll actually want to hang out with kids like us? Seriously?”

He punched me on the arm. “Come on, stop being such a downer. It’s going to be fun!”

So apparently Dongho’s definition of ‘fun’ involved me and him standing in a corner while the rest of the party ignored us completely, so we ended up only talking- no, yelling to each other. Yeah, that sure is ‘fun’. “Told you they weren’t going to want to hang out with us,” I yelled.

“What?”

“I said ‘told you they weren’t going to want to hang out with us’,” I repeated.

“What?” I just shook my head and gave up on talking to him. I managed to tell him that I was going to the bathroom by using gestures. When I came back, he triumphantly raised a full bottle of vodka into the air. “Taemin, Taemin, look!” he yelled. I gulped. I had only drunk alcohol once in my life and that really didn’t turn out too well.

“How did you get that?”

“Since my brother is a booze-hog I had to steal it from the bar,” he proudly proclaimed. I laughed nervously. “Let’s get drunk. Here!” He pushed the bottle into my hands. “You go first.” My eyes fluttered between him and the bottle and after a little more goading I put the bottle to my lips and took a huge sip. The liquid burned my throat and I ended up coughing violently. He laughed at me. “You’re so bad at this,” he said, quickly taking the bottle from my hand before I dropped it during my coughing fit. He ignored my glare, but just as he raised the bottle to drink, his brother came out of nowhere and snatched it away from him.

“Whoa,” Soohyun said. “You’re too young to drink, Dongho-yah.”

“But hyung~!” his brother whined and pouted when his brother just laughed at his vain attempt on defeating him with aegyo. “I’m telling mom and dad about your party.”

The older of the two smirked. “Oh, but drinking wasn’t part of our deal, so if you do tell them you’re breaking that deal.” His younger brother’s continued groundless complaints only made him laugh and he soon walked away.

Strangely enough I was laughing too. Dongho glared at me. “What are you laughing at?”

“I have no idea,” I slurred, frowning at how unbelievably hard the words were to form.

For some reason it was also funny how he blinked at me. “Oh my god,” he exclaimed and crossed his arms. “You’re drunk, aren’t you?” I laughed goofily and he stomped the floor. “Why am I the only one who has to stay sober, why? It’s not fair~!” I just laughed some more at his cute, little tantrum. I hugged him in an attempt to calm him down. Huh. I usually never hug people, but when I have been drinking I become a touchy-feely kind of person apparently. I giggled. “Dude, get the fuck off me.” I let go of him and mumbled an apology. He just rolled his eyes.

“Soohyun-ah, let your brother and his friend join,” I heard a guy say. I turned around wobblingly and saw that they had cleared the low coffee table and placed a bottle on top of it, while they were all seated on the floor around it. I frowned confusedly.

“But they’re just kids,” Soohyun laughed.

“Yeah, but your brother is so cute, though.” Dongho flushed red at the girl’s comment and she as well as the group of girls around her squealed. “Come on, Soohyun-oppa~, let them play.” The host of the party finally gave in and he waved us over with a reluctant facial expression. Dongho cheerily dragged me over and I plopped down on the floor, still not really understanding what was going on.

The room was spinning just as much as the bottle, but I had finally seemed to figure out what the game was about. Someone spun the bottle and they had to kiss whoever it landed on. If either of them refused to do the kiss, they would both have to do a shot. There had been some rather awkward moments, most of the people had left the party because it was late and some were passed out on the floor. Among the last group was Dongho, who finally had his wish granted when he was actually allowed to drink. He had hit the deck after only three shots. I, however, had been lucky enough to avoid the shots altogether, which was probably good considering how little it took for me to reach the stage beyond drunk. I hadn’t had any more to drink since the sip of vodka earlier and my thoughts were finally starting to clear up.

It was just me, Soohyun, some girl that I was pretty sure I had kissed earlier in the game and one of Soohyun’s friends, who I didn’t manage to catch the name of. I had noticed the latter staring at me several times throughout the night, but I had been too absorbed in the game to really pay much attention to him. It was the girl’s turn to spin the bottle and it landed on Soohyun. She crawled over to him and onto his lap. I watched them French for what seemed like an endless amount of time, her arms slung around his neck, his hands placed on her hips until they both finally got up and she dragged him in the direction of a random bedroom. Soon after I heard a door slam and everything went quiet.

My eyes wandered around the room, looking everywhere but at the guy who was sitting across from me, even though I knew he was definitely looking right at me. We didn’t talk. Neither of us got up either, though. We just sat there in silence as the minutes dragged by.

When I suddenly saw him moving out of the corner of my eye, I turned my attention towards him. He grabbed the bottle, which had rolled off the low coffee table and landed safely on the carpeted floor. He placed it on the table and spun it. I watched it go round and round, gradually slowing down and eventually coming to a full stop… pointing straight at me. I looked up at him and gulped. He had a lopsided smirk on his face and his brown puppy eyes glistened at me. For some reason I thought his eyes were attractive. Is that wrong? Actually everything about him was attractive – his soft-looking hair, his rosy lips, his handsome face. Even his multiple ear piercings were making me a bit flustered, even though it’s a weird thing to get flustered by.

“So what do you want to do?” he asked out of nowhere. His voice was smooth and it kind of overwhelmed me.

“Excuse me?” I croaked.

“The game… do you want to kiss or do you want to drink?”

“Uh… drink,” I said quickly. I assumed that since everyone else had left we would just stop playing, but apparently I was wrong. The guy smirked and poured me a shot. I gulped it down in one go, my face distorting into something beyond recognizable at the burning sensation. His laugh was really pleasant and I blushed slightly.

“It’s your turn,” he said. I spun the bottle and of course it ended up landing on him. “Kiss or drink?” I chose drink again and it continued like that. I don’t know why I didn’t just get up and leave. I don’t know why I had to be the one to decide every time, although I guess it was because he was fine with either. After about three more rounds of shots I could no longer feel my body. “Kiss or drink?” he asked me again.

“Please, I… I… I can’t drink… anymore,” I groaned, waving my hands dismissingly in front of me.

“You know what that means, right?” I swallowed something, but nodded bravely. I found out that he was even more handsome up close. He put his hand under my chin and tilted my face upwards so I looked at him. I was having a hard time actually focusing, but I could at least make out the smile on his face. I panted slightly at the unfamiliar proximity. “Hi,” he said.

“H-hi,” I stuttered. “I’m Taemin.”

”Jonghyun,” he replied with his own name. And that was all we said to each other, before he kissed me. No, ‘kissed me’ would be a complete understatement. Sure, it did start out that way, but it ended with him pretty much devouring my lips. I know I just made it sound like he took me against my will. To tell the truth, I was just as much a part of it. Our tongues twirled around each other, being as much in the other’s mouth as in our own. He pulled away first, but I just continued kissing down his neck and biting into the salty flesh. “Yah, kid. Slow down,” he said huskily. I ignored him and mimicked what I had seen the girl do to Soohyun earlier. I straddled him. I took it one step further, though, as I began to rock my hips slowly back and forth while I connected our lips again. He groaned into the kiss and I found myself smirking at how he responded to my actions. I gasped in surprise when he suddenly grabbed my hips to stop me from moving. “Yah,” he tried once again. “If you don’t stop right now, I’m going to...”

Even though he had started out threateningly, the rest of his words died out. “You’re going to what?” I asked teasingly. When he still didn’t finish his sentence, I leaned forward and took his lower lip between my teeth. His fingers dug into my hip.

“Do you want to get out of here?” he whispered. I smiled. When I had gotten off him I was pulled to my feet. I didn’t know where we were going, I just followed him. On the way I looked at Dongho, who was drooling onto the carpet. I would have to explain to him later, because right then and there... I had something completely different in mind.
