1. All I know of love at eighteen

Us,

The dawn of my intimacies,

Born like the fire-feathered bird

From the wretched ashes of hope,

Broke with an equal majesty

And ephemeral quality.

I,

The unfairly inopportune,

Born resisting, wrenched from the womb

Like I knew what I was facing,

Broke simply by heart, green teenage heart,

The rhythm of which you drum a part.

You,

All I know of love at eighteen,

Born (by my mother's standards)

Scandalously older than me,

Broke a while before the dawn, and

Never told me what was wrong.

We,

(It is not the same as 'us')

Born from further resistance on

My behalf; confusion on yours.

Oh, the incessant question mark,

Is there a name for what we are?
