Black Dove

A poem about feeling trapped by emotion but being slowly set free by love

1. Black Dove

To be free from freedom

Is a bird with a clipped a wing

It is intoxication of the mind

With no peace to bring

What if you find the key

Before you find the lock?

Would things be different

If sand slid through a handless clock?

Beneath the stars, a dove in flight

Soft white feathers and deep dark eyes

Not a teardrop to heavy the clouds

Not a bright bolt to cut the skies

And when my fists are clenched

You say it’s a sign of power

Stroke my soaked cheeks from tears

As if plucking petals from a flower

Though I am consumed

With anger and with fear

Your kiss is upon my neck

And your hand is always near
