21. You Never Told Me

You told me this was a diary of self-loathe

You told me this was not an example of growth

You told me to be kinder to myself

You told me acceptance was a greater wealth

You told me, you told me, you told me...but you never showed me

You never showed me how to tolerate

You never showed me how to anticipate

You never showed me how to forgive

You never showed me how to believe

Not in others, not in my enemy....but in me

You told me it was all going to be okay

You told me all I had to do was find my way

You told me that faith would not lead me astray

You told me that my elders I should obey

You told me, you told me, you told me...but you never promised me

You never promised me I'd be so lost

You never promised me love came at a cost

You never promised me tears stung like wasps

You never promised me a broken heart had no clasps

Not in the past, not for the future...but presently

You never told me of the hardships of life

You never told me of the struggles in strife

You never told me of the heartache behind lies

You never told me of the loss in broken ties

And your silence bombards my mind with echoes

And your absence obstructs my path with shadows

Please, put your had on my shoulder

Hug me just a little bit tighter...

Tell me that it was all for the best.
