23. Starting a New Life

Weeping tears, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see Adonis, I pushed his hand off and walked across the field towards the forest. The forest was colourless, no green, no nothing. Just black, grey and white, the dullest colours. Kamalia's voice came into my head, 'I'm sorry Erica. I could of rescued him, but I was too weak.' She hobbled over to the edge of the forest where I stood, I looked up to her. “It isn't your fault, I'm just glad that you are alive.” I patted the side of her neck, she purred. I smile briefly. I will not laugh, smile and enjoy myself ever again. Unless I'm with Kamalia, the only person I can trust. “Kamalia, try and find Calenta.” She seemed to nod, and her wings rose, to push her into the air. She soared across the sky until she cut through the clouds, and was longer to be seen. Adonis walked towards me, I knew he was going to tell me that his Mother was expecting me. I rolled my eyes, I watched him come closer. Until he was placed before. “I'm sorry Erica, and I truly mean that. My Mother wishes to see you,” “She can go to Hell, she killed my fiancé.” He placed his hands on my shoulders, “Erica, listen. My Mother still wants me to marry you,” I threw his hands off my shoulders. “No, I might have only known him for a few weeks. But he was the one person I could trust. And now, Kamalia is the only person I trust. And these are the last words you will ever hear me speak.” I turned away, I walked into the forest. “Erica please,” I ignored him, still walking away. But I swear I had a heart attack when Damalis landed before me, blocking me from the forest. “Damalis move,” I ordered, he replied with a low growl. Kamalia wasn't here, I had to defend myself. The large grey Dragon walked towards me, backing me up back to Adonis. “Erica, my Mother won't take no for an answer.” “I thought you didn't like me like that,” “Of course I do. I love you,” he spoke quickly, I wasn't even sure I heard him right. “You love me?” He nodded, with a lump in his throat. “Yes,” he said calmly. He didn't breathe, in or out, he was starting to scare me. “Adonis,” he looked at me, hopefully. Arthur's dead, with no hope, how can I live on. “You must speak with my Mother,” he put his arm around me. I nodded my head, shaking though. He lead me across the field and into the temple, and to the Throne room. All the Dragonlords were there, “Ah, Erica.” Valeska said trying to sound graceful, she glided down the Throne's stairs. She walked next to Adonis, and whispered in his ear. I didn't hear what she said, Adonis nodded. She looked at me as she walked back to her Throne, Adonis caught my hand and led away from the Throne room. “Uh, I thought I was talking to your Mother,” he didn't answer. He took me back to the field, through the forest and through to the clearing. No, this is mine and Arthur's place, not mine and Adonis's. He took me under the Oak tree, no, I can't do this. Not under the Oak tree. “Adonis, no not here.” “Erica, please,” I knelt to one knee. “Erica, marry me,” my whole world turned upside down. I don't want to, but I should. He looked up at me, I could tell he loved me, but I don't love him. “Erica, please. Or both our heads will be on the chopping block,” tears came to my eyes. I still can't believe that Arthur is dead, “I'll marry you. But I'm not in love with you.” He stood up, and nodded. “I need to be alone, I'll see ya later.” I shifted in a Wyvern and took to the skies. A Wyvern is a small dragon, with no arms or legs, just wings. I glided upwards gracefully, over the forest. And back to Arthur's dead body, I dropped to the floor as a human. He was stiff, cold and no longer glowing as he used to. With a large thud, Kamalia landed at my side, with Calenta. The large burnt orange dragon dropped his head to his dead master. His wings dropped, “I'm sorry Calenta,” he seemed to nod. I climbed onto Kamalia's back, “Calenta, could you lift him into the clearing.” Calenta responded, clasping his master lightly in his talon like claws. And gently lifted towards the clearing, Kamalia followed. I could she Adonis walking through the darkened forest, he was running. Probably to tell his Mother that I'd marry him, I bet he's pleased. Cause I'am certainly not. Calenta placed him underneath the large Oak tree, both the Dragons bowed their heads in respect. I dismounted Kamalia, using the Moonstone, I summoned all the animals of the forest. Deer, foxes, badgers, owls, squirrels and others. But two large shadows formed on the grass, I looked up to the sky. To see two familiar animals of strength, Zandro and Farron. They both landed before me, and they too, bowed in respect. And walked to join the animals that were here to mourn for the loss of a Dragon Rider. I was the only human, but none of the people in the temple and understand my loss. He might have been my fiancé, but he was my reason of living. But I wasn't going to kill myself. I looked up at Calenta and nodded, the dragon formed a grave by cutting out the land into a rectangle. And lifting with his tail, Kamalia lifted Arthur with her tail. And lied him in the grave, and Calenta placed the grass topped Earth back into it's slot in the ground. I dismissed the forest animals, they all fled back to the forest, except a fox and an owl. They were the two that were here when I obtained the Moonstone. They were both loyal, “I have over heard the Dragonlords.” Zandro spoke very clearly, I turned from Arthur grave and to the jet black wolf. “You are to me wedded on the 18th of January,” I sighed. “Great my 16th birthday,” “I must leave now, the royals are expecting me.” He lifted into the air, Farron's yellow, Sun like eyes looked at me. “I'am sorry Erica for your loss,” I smiled in thanks for the sympathy. “Thank you Farron,” he nodded and took to the skies. Kamalia stood and looked up at the Griffin, 'That is the last time we will see him.' I looked at her in shock, “What?” 'He's going home to Tossa de Mar, that's in Spain.' “Kamalia, you and Calenta can leave until after I'am married. Now go,” she nodded and both of them left. Leaving me with the fox, the owl and my dead fiancé’s body...
