8. Sand and Mistletoe

As we came to the edge of the forest, I slowed down. The once small Dragons couldn't fit through the gaps amongst the trees anymore. Realizing this they resumed their position for warmth, I simply smiled. And walked into the forest, fir trees towered over us, the sun bleeding through the white darkness above. We carried on walking, “Can I ask you something personal?” Arthur asked as we passed the simple fir trees, each with it's personal features. “Of course,” I replied. “Why did you slap Adonis when he kissed you?” I looked at him. Arthur eyes were truly interested, “Because he thinks can get any girl he wants.” Arthur nodded, “That's true, most girls would die to just kiss him.” I rolled my eyes, “So stereotypical. The one of royalty can have thousands run after him,” I stated. We suddenly came to a clearing in the forest, were there was snow, just spring grass. And at the other side of the clearing was a large oak tree, we looked at each other and started to run. Kamalia and Calenta flew above us, I jumped onto Kamalia and she flew to the tree. Calenta picked up Arthur with his front claws. Kamalia landed in the tree and placed me underneath the shade with her tail. Arthur walked up to me after Calenta placed him on the ground, they both flew to the edge of the forest for some privacy. I sat with my back against the tree, Arthur joined me. I relaxed with the comfort that Kamalia will protect me. Snow began to fall, I smiled, “Erica.” I looked at him, and he was looking up. “Mistletoe,” he spoke faintly, he looked at me as I looked at him. He placed his right hand on the side of my face, and kissed me. My third kiss over all, the first I actually wanted. That kiss seemed to last for ages, but it was a only brief. When our lips departed, he looked at me deeply, and then I knew. Telling my mother that I had no feelings for him was a lie, he leant in and kissed me again. But more passionately, his hand gently holding my head still. “Erica!” he stopped kissing me, and we both turned to see all hell. It was my Naida and Silvana, “Oh shit.” He whispered, I laughed for a brief second. As they came closer, me and Arthur awkwardly moved apart. “Erica, you have a reputation to live up to,” Naida said. I rolled my eyes, “Give her a break. You were at parties and kissing strangers at her age,” Silvana said. I looked at my mother, she looked a little embarrassed. But she cleared her throat, “Thank you Silvana,” she said sarcastically. Silvana nodded, and winked at me, “I'm going to go.” He whispered in my ear, and he walked passed Naida and Silvana. And went to Calenta, but stood there, “Anyway. He have an arranged husband, you shall marry-” “Adonis.” I finished her sentence, “I'm not going to marry him,” I stood. “Didn't he tell you what happened that day when me and Arthur were attacked my that vampire?” They looked at each other, “He said that we was on a stroll and he saw you and Arthur confronted by a vampire. And that's when he sent Damalis to come get me and Ambrosine,” I rolled my eyes and walked forward. “Actually, me and Arthur were in the field, and he called me. Saying he wanted to show me something in the forest. And when he saw Arthur still in the field, he asked me what he was doing there. And he demanded what he was doing, and I said 'You can't question me, you don't know me'. And he said 'I bet your boyfriend does,' in rage. I stormed it the forest, he followed me, and so did Arthur. Saying he was sorry, I was still annoyed with him, and he kissed me. I tried to leave, but he caught my hand, and he kissed me again. I slapped him, and he left. I sat under a tree, and Arthur explained that I might have to marry him. And that's when the vampire appeared,” I breathed heavily. “But you can't expect me to marry him,” and I walked pass them, and went to Kamalia, Calenta and Arthur. I mounted her, and Arthur mounted Calenta, “Erica, we're not going to force you to marry him. But we insist that you think it through, we need the best children for the next generation. And the mix of Dragonlord blood is the best for the next generation, to protect the temple in the worst time in history.” I laughed at the thought of it, and looked seriously at my mother. “It's not what you are,” I looked at Arthur, “It's who you are.” And with that final word, Kamalia lifted into the air, followed by Calenta. Climbing higher and higher, until there were no clouds, just a layer of clouds like the ground. Kamalia glided in and out of the clouds like a dolphin, Calenta glided above her. She dipped down to a cliff, and landed, Calenta joined us, me and Arthur dismounted them and they curled up together. Arthur sat at the edge of the cliff next to me, looking out to a beach that stretched out as far as my eyes could see. He put his arm around me, and I leant against him. “Why would you not marry Adonis?” he asked. I sighed, “Marriage is for people in love. Not something to be arranged,” I looked up him. He kissed me again, “Erica!,” he stopped kissing me. And turned to see not only hell, but the devil, “Erica you're my future wife.” Adonis shouted, Damalis greeted the other two Dragons, and sat next to them. I stood, Arthur stood as well, “Why would you kiss a stable boy?” I was getting really annoyed now, “I don't care if you see nothing but a stable boy. Cause when I look at you, I see a man that can't hold a relationship.” Adonis was furious, “I can, I choose not to because-” “Because the only reason people love you. Is because you're a Dragonlord,” he sighed. “The only reason I haven't had a relationship, is because I've been waiting for a girl I can connect with.” I shooed him with my hand, “Keep looking,” those words are what hurt him the most. He turned, but walked up to Arthur, “You better treat her right. If you ever mistreat her, I will have Damalis after you.” And he left upon Damalis's back. I fell to the floor and relaxed, Arthur lay next to me, watching me. I looked up into his beautiful eyes, he kissed me, and hopefully. No-one will shout my name. That was the best kiss of my life. “Come on,” he said as he stood up, “You need to get to that Ball.” I groaned, he pulled me to my feet. “I'm gonna embarrass myself,” we mounted our Dragons. And they took to the skies once more, “Why, would you embarrass yourself?” I looked at him, “I can't dance, at all.” He shrugged, “So, you don't have to. The dancing is optional.” I sighed with relief, “Well that's one thing off my mind.” Kamalia landed by the back door of the temple, Calenta landed next to her. I dismounted her, and Arthur dismounted Calenta. He followed me to the back door, “I'll see you tomorrow.” “Alright,” and he kissed me. I entered the temple and went to my chambers. And shut the door, Kamalia was by the window. I went over and opened the window, she stuck her head through. I went to my wardrobe, and found a red ball gown and changed into it. Then realizing that most women would be wearing red, I looked around. And contemplated wearing the dress I fell in love the moment I saw it, but I wanted to wear it to a ball that Arthur would be at. Then I spotted out of the corner of my, a purple ball gown. The sleeves were like the type you find on a wizard’s robe, I changes. And pulled on a pair of purple high heels, and did my hair and make-up in just a few minutes. And left my chambers, and followed the loud music, to find myself in a line to enter the ballroom. And then I saw a man at the front of the queue, and he would read out your name. Eventually I got to the front, “Ah there is only one more name on the list, state your name.” I breathed in nervously, I don't know why though. “Erica Bluewater,” he nodded and stepped out of the way, and I walked down the steps, “And finally Miss Erica Bluewater.”
