Elizabeth [Ghost-Story, A]

Elizabeth, twin-brother Noah & best-friend Jennifer walk-home barefoot having-attended 1843 Christmas-Eve celebrations at the Henry J Fate Flour-Mill. Twins are tragically-killed in a 'road-traffic-accident'.

Opening-scene; standing on the dirt-road [NO-pavement/sidewalk] a few steps away from the stone-wall entrance of the Henry J Fate Flour-Mill, camera moves-past gate-keepers [night-watchman’s] wooden-hut [on the right-hand-side] across the cobble-stones toward & through the school-room window.

Moving forward to the table nearest-lectern camera focuses-upon Jennifer & her best-friends Elizabeth & Noah listening-intently to their-employer reading closing Christmas Carol paragraphs... ‘God bless-us everyone’.
Closing the book Henry thanked the children for attending the modest flour-mill seasonal-celebrations; standing quietly, the children dutifully lined-up, thanked Henry & wife Zoë as they collected a token-bonus of nuts, flour...

Walking-home barefoot Jennifer fell-behind a few paces, holding the Royal Oak wall for-balance as she brushed the soles of-her-feet to remove stones that had been hidden under the light-dusting of-snow.

Standing upright she caught-sight of a pair-of-horses impact Elizabeth & Noah, their bodies falling-lifeless on-the-road.

Tolling of single church-bell; screen fades-to-black.

We move to 21st-century with Valerie standing by the Royal Oak wall, husband Allan walking-up behind wife of 30yrs.

Elizabeth is hidden-from-view...

Alive-&-mortal Elizabeth & Noah get to live in the 21st-century.

46. True-Story [wip]

Valerie, Allan, Debbie... ‘remembered’ Elizabeth & Noahs ‘ghostly’ visit as a lucid-dream. Ballroom-dancing trophy in Valeries living-room was real, photos too, it must be true.

Valerie revealed her ‘secret’; 1844 graduation-photograph was in-fact her, 21st-century elementary-school registration photographs identical to same were Elizabeth & Noah.

Would anybody believe the evidence [camcorder-footage, MSN & CashOnTheNail registration], testimony of Elizabeth & Noahs elementary-school friends & teachers.  Valerie e-mailed back with the unbelievable-truth, including official-confirmation original & new copyright applications for the steam-powered automatic washing-machine. Together with a photograph of the rusted labour-saving device in Trudys-garden Valerie would love to learn more about the Canadian-branch of her extended family & the gaps in-between.

Copyright Office confirmation listed Valeries name-sake with her 20th-century date-of-birth, at her 21st-century home-address, as one of the original 1844 creators of the steam-powered automatic washing-machine; how Valeries e-mail address & post-code too appeared on the original copyright-application was a mystery.

It was refreshing Elizabeth listed Valerie as a co-inventor, a shame she never met Victoria & Adam; smiling Valerie pondered how her ancestors reacted when told of the twins 21st-century adventures.

Debbie, Naomi, Hayley, Nikita... had met the twins, their ballroom-trophy proudly-displayed in the living-room; inspired by their ancestors Naomi, Hayley & Nikita enrolled in Lucys dance-studio. Frank Sinatra was no Gerard Way though waltzing to Vampires Will Never Hurt You, Drowning Lessons... was not possible.

Valerie was so proud of her ancestors & pondered how Elizabeths mom, Mary, felt when she first used the steam-powered automatic washing-machine. Watching re-enactments of Victorian life on TV Valerie trembled; her kitchen, living-room, everything-essentials were essential.

It was comforting the twins experienced the future & the laundry-toil had been relieved; perhaps Mary took-in washing.

With access to her daughters state-of-the-art automatic washing-machine Mary would have been able to boost her family-income; taking-in washing from her boss & other well-to-do families.

The closest many 21st-century ‘girls’ come to hand-washing is cleaning their tops & smalls whilst on vacation. How many 21st-century ‘girls’ would ‘cope’ with life-&-death as-experienced by their 19th-century ancestors.
