  • The Lighter Side of Rocket Science...

FyrefoxInside every aerospace engineer and NASA scientist continues to exist the ten to twelve year old boy who found the prospect of space travel and other planets thrilling. It was wonderful to see televised images of NASA workers hugging one another and clapping each other on the back following the successful landing of the Curiosity rover on the Martian surface. Their boyish enthusiasm was reflected in such comments as, "This is totally cool!," and "This rocks!". Well done, NASA!
  • Mangling the Language...

FyrefoxIf you spend any amount of time visiting message boards or communities on the Internet, you may come away sobered by the number of people who struggle to spell common words, or whose meaning is lost due to an apparent inability to formulate a coherent sentence. I'm no grammar Nazi, but basic writing skills seem to more rare than might be thought! Celebrate your Literacy!
  • On Writing...

FyrefoxWhat I think is awesome about writing is that it's one of those few things that you can do almost anywhere at any time by yourself and with minimal equipment. So many activities in life depend on being in a certain location with other people and with tools that can be extensive, expensive, or cumbersome. Not so with writing...just have a small notepad, a writing implement, and you're on your way!
    Danté Azrael OmbraspadaI agree.
Many times I have sat in a classroom, living room, bus, etc. and written something. Ah, how little we writers are thought of nowadays. It seems to be all these celebrities.
I think writers should get more of a mention.
    What do you think?
FyrefoxI quite agree, Dante! Many years ago while in elementary school I wrote a story for the school literary magazine which featured a giant ape and brought me recognition. The school principal said my piece was "polished writing," but "wished that I had chosen another topic." One should write about what they are drawn to and love, however, so I've never abandoned my interest in the fantastic and supernatural, and am pleased that you haven't, either!
