  • The logic of Movella competitions

    SpasmoStarThis is probably going to sound like I feel some people write horribly bad, but keep in mind this is not what I mean at all, so please do bear with me, and let me apologize in advantage if I sound offensive in any way.
    Movella writing competitions. I have only joined but one, and I am not looking to join more at current moment."Why?" you may ask, and to this my answer is simple.
    To me Movella writing competitions seem more like a popularity competition rather than a writing competition, and while I do kind of like the idea that you can pass your story around for other Movellians to judge, I also really dislike this feature.
    Why? I'll tell you. The more friends you have, the more people you can pass your story to, and they will pass it on to their firends, and so on and so forth, ensuring you to get a lot of likes and comments (aka) votes, thereby increasing your chance to win, and this is not always fair.
    I have seen Movellians with hardly any followers, comments or likes to their stories, who write stupidly well, but they never really get acknowledged, and the same goes for competitions.
    If you have a ton of friends it does not matter if you write good or bad, so sometimes a story which in technique and dialogue is better than the winner. might never get a chance to even get placed because they don't have enough friends to vote for them.
    I would more like it if someone actually sat down, read the stories and really judged them. Then giving a reason why they placed as they did, and then it would seem more fair to me, because competition writers with hardly any friends, but really good writing skills, will have a very little chance of getting acknowledged, and can end up seeing a story, which is rather "flat" and not very descriptive at all as the winner, simply because that person has a lot of friends on Movellas.
    The title may say "Writing competition", but in reality, the writing competitions are more of a popularity competition than anything else.
    Again, I am truthfully sorry if I in any way offended any one, these are just my five cents on this whole competition thing.

    But now I will tell about this one thing: I entered the Crime Scene competition recently, with my story "Unsolved". I would very much appreciate it if you would go read it and like/fave it, if you think it deserves such.
    Keep in mind, on these competitions the winner gets picked on the amount of likes/faves (which is proobably a little "dumb", because if you have many firends on movellas, your chances are bigger, even if your writing is "horrible"), so go at it.
