  • The Frustrations of a Frustrated Writing Failure Pt 1.

Sean HarrisonFrom the title you can probably gather that I find writing (right now) a very frustrating exercise.

There is no one to blame for this other than myself of course. The brain is a muscle like all others and need continual exercise to perform at it's optimum and where writing is concerned my brain is sadly lacking due to a high level of writing inactivity. This was brought on by feelings of inferiority, fear of failure and, let's be honest, sheer laziness.

For anyone else out there in the same boat I thoroughly recommend reading Stephen King's book, On Writing. I have read so many self help books on Writing and they have only served to diminish my excitement for writing by pointing out that writing isn't fun it's Bloody Hard Work! Well, I think they've missed the point that if you love writing it's not hard work at all and Kings book points this out in a way only Stephen King can with clarity, sincerity and good humour.

His thoughts on writing have rekindled my passion for writing enough for me to force out the stories that now live on Movellas and I hope that there will be more to follow as reading his book also seems to have revived my imagination and creativity for story ideas which are now bursting at the seams.

Hopefully people will read them and enjoy them as much I did writing them. But the biggest lesson learnt by reading Kings book is that you write for yourself and if people follow great but if not still stay true to yourself.

Good words to work by I think.
