Jenny's POV
“Niall is in a coma. It is a very critical condition. The doctor said we can all go in and see him. Just don’t be negative because what we say around him will effect him even though he is out of it,” Paul said. He then led the way to Niall’s room. I didn’t know what to expect. I had never seen anyone in a coma. We walked into the room. Niall was lying there on the bed. He actually looked peaceful aside from the bruises. He laid there, eyes closed and yet he still looked beautiful. We all sat in the chairs they had in the room. I sat next to Zayn. He put his arms around me as the tears fell from my eyes. I looked over at all the boys. They looked horrible. I hated seeing them cry. I looked over to Liam, and I couldn’t get the picture of when he auditioned for x factor out of my mind. It killed me to see them so sad.
Hours later Paul wanted to talk to the boys out in the hall. They all reluctantly followed him out. As soon as I was alone I walked up to Niall. I looked down at all the bruises on his face. I bent down and kissed each little bruise. “You have to get better,” I said, my voice cracking, “you have to get better because… because… I love you…”
Niall’s heart beat slowed down. Then all of a sudden, the machine stopped beeping. He stopped breathing. “Niall!” I screamed while crying, “Niall!” I had no idea what to do. The emergency call button was on the other side of the room. I ran over to it. I must’ve clicked it like forty times, until someone responded, “Yes?” “Help,” I cried. I looked back over to Niall. He still wasn’t breathing. Don’t leave me, I thought. You can’t leave me!
The nurses rushed into the room. I ran into the corner and sat down. I curled up into a ball, sobbing so loud. I couldn’t see what was going on, but I also kind of didn’t want to see. I heard someone say, “Three, two, one, go.” I knew they were using a defibrillator to shock him. I heard them count down again and shock him. I saw him jerk when they pushed the pads against him. The machines started beeping again. He must have started breathing again.
Liam’s POV
We had waited for hours for the doctor to come out. I don’t think Jenny had stopped crying once since she got here. We were finally let into Niall’s room. I couldn’t lose Niall. He’s my best friend. Paul called us out of the room. I was the last one out and as I closed the door, I heard Jenny say to Niall, “I love you.” It killed me inside. I knew she liked him, but I really still had feelings for her. I wanted her to love me instead of him. I thought about what would happen if Niall died. I would be miserable. Maybe Jenny would go out with me, but I didn’t want to be her second choice. I wanted her to love me by choice, not because I was the only one left.
Paul had just started to open his mouth to say something when the nurses rushed by. They all ran into Niall’s room. I heard Jenny screaming inside the room. It hurt me to see her like that. I was freaked out a little by what was happening, because I didn’t really know what was going on. The door to Niall’s room slammed shut, blocking my view from what was happening. I hoped Niall was alright.
Jenny’s POV
Hours Later
Niall’s parents had finally made it to the hospital, so the boys and I gave them some time alone with him. His breathing had returned to normal and the doctors said that some of the swelling in his brain had gone down. He was still in a coma, though. I sat next to Louis and Harry in the hospital lobby. I looked over to Harry and said, “Do you think he’s going to be alright?”
“Yes, darling. I’m sure he’ll be fine.”
“I sure hope so.”
My dad had called to check on me and I told him I was still at the hospital. He said that this boy must be really special to me. I wondered if my crush on Niall was as obvious to everyone else, as it was to my father. I saw Niall’s parents walking down the hallway towards us. They had smiles on their faces, which were really odd considering the predicament we were in. “Niall’s awake!” they said in unison, once they got to us. The boys all jumped up and ran to the stairs to get to Niall’s room. I followed closely behind. I was glad he was finally awake, but I had no idea what I was going to say to him. We rushed into his room. Niall still looked a little groggy. “How you feeling, mate?” Zayn said. “Alright, my head hurts. Can someone explain what happened to me?” Niall responded. The boys all looked over at me. Great, I thought, I have to be the one to tell him. Zayn, Louis, Harry, and Liam all walked awkwardly out the door.
