We are moving today. I never thought my mother would get over my father's death. It was sixteen months ago, and we are much stronger now. A few days go, my mother told me she found one of her friends from high school. She lives in Santa Clarita, so my mother convinced me to move with her to California. It could be a good start? They have not spoken together since my mother got pregnant again. My parents went through a terrible loss of their first child - my brother, James Elliott. Giving birth to me was her biggest gift from God, she often tells me!

I finished packing and go downstairs, where my mother is waiting for me. I get into the car, and we sit next to each other. I look at the house for the last time, saying goodbye to what was our home, before my mother starts the car and drive away to the airport - we meet some friends, only waiting to say goodbye and wish good luck. I will miss them all!

Late in the evening, and we are finally home. I step out of the car and see this HUGE house in front of me on a small hill. I look back at my mother, coming out of the car. My mouth is open, and she smiles. I had no idea my mother would have money to buy such a big house, but it is all ours - and I can’t wait to see my room!

California is so beautiful. I sit in our garden, and it's so beautiful with flowers in different colors. My mother comes outside with a red blanket and hot chocolate. It has been a very hard day, and hopefully, we will go nowhere, because this is just amazing! She sits next to me and puts the blanket around me.

“You shouldn't get too cold and sick, my dear”, she says and smiles.

I smile back at her. She’s so beautiful.

“I love you mom” I say. She looks at me.

“I love you too, Cassie” she says and hugs me.

She removes hair from my face and looks at me.

“You are so beautiful” she says. I smile.

“You too, mom” I say.
