“Kids you need to wake up now, something is wrong and I need you and your skills to be alert.”
I opened my eyes and looked out the window of the car, the sun wasn’t very high on the sky, it must still be early in the day, and I stretched as good as possible in a small car, with three not so small kids on the backseat, including two large dresses. I looked at Jonathan he looked worried, Isabelle was sitting with her eyes closed, she was not sleeping, she was to tense for that. I looked at Robert and Charlotte; they kept looking at each other as if they were having a silent conversation. Robert looked in the rearview mirror at caught my gaze, he cleared his throat, “Marie I know you haven’t had any training yet but I need you to get your paper and pencil and do exactly as I tell you.” “But, Robert I have no idea what to do or how, i am not sure I can help with anything.” I stuttered. Jonathan looked at me, put his arm on mine and gave it a squeeze “you can do it, just listen to him.”
I found my things, and Robert sent me some signs in my head, to duplicate on the paper, I did as told, Jonathan was looking over my shoulder to see what I was doing, he didn’t know much about this skill but Robert had sent him the pictures as well so he could help me, I drew as fast as I could and as precise as possible, I took a mental picture of it so Robert could see the result, he nodded, clearly happy with it, and he was focusing on a lot at once that was clear to me.
Isabelle looked at me, “you will have to listen to me know she said, Jonathan will you please add a changing room to the car, and three fighting uniforms please, one for each of us here,” she paused “when we have changed we are ready to go Robert, this is the only way, show Marie the language rune so she can mark us.” And so he did a dark mark appeared in my head, and I quickly drew it on Isabelle and jonathans hands, and then on my own, we added a few more marks, one for finding our path, one for our senses to be sharpened, and one for getting thru the veil at the border to Vanaheim, normally people didn’t need them, but since we hadn’t been there before it was better to be sure.
We quickly changed to the uniforms, which was basically black pants in an elastic fabric, so it was smooth and close to the skin, a black high neck sweater and a black short jacket with a lot of protections on it, both magical and non-magical, such as Kevlar in the back, we bound up our hair, got some big black boots on they were heavy but I’m sure they were the best for the purpose, around the waist we had a belt, with a dagger hanging from the side, some small pockets with different things in them, healing gear, paper and pencil for me, a bit of food, and a bottle with water. I felt like I was in the military when this gear on, but I was sure there was a reason for it, and there wasn’t time to ask questions right now anyway.
As soon as the car pulled in the breach of the forest Robert stopped the car and we jumped out, they said good luck and promised to stay in mental touch as much as they dared to; other telepaths are able to pick up on other conversations if they have an idea where to look.
And then we took off in to the forest, we instinct knew which way to go because of the mark we had, and the map that Robert had made me draw, even if I didn’t know it was a map until I was done. Jonathan had made our mist as thick as he could which meant normal people couldn’t see us and it was hard for others like us to see thru it as well.
We sped over the forest floor as fast as we dared we didn’t have time for anyone to fall and get hurt, I don’t know for how long we ran, we couldn’t really see the suns position on the sky from under the trees, but when we were deep into the forest Jonathan made us stop, we found a place to sit to catch our breaths and get something to drink. Isabelle stepped away from us, not further than we could still see her, but far enough for her to get some focus, to see if she could get an idea of what was coming and when.
I looked at Jonathan even now, in these clothes and after running like a maniac for I don’t know how long, he was still beautiful and still made me feel peaceful, despite of the situation we were in. “I am sorry I got you in to this mess,” I said really thinking that if I had never went to that hill to draw, if I had never gone with him, if I had never been born even, this wouldn’t have happened to him or to Isabelle; they could have lived in peace with Robert and charlotte.
He looked at me with surprise in his eyes, he stared at me making his eyes narrow, as if he would see me better that way, and then he smiled, “you don’t really think this is your fault for you?”
