At first there was silence. Jessie picked up a piece of 'currywurst' and dropped it down her mouth. She struggled, her left hand moved towards her mouth, to wipe away a drop of tomato sauce from the corner of her lips. She ended up merging away her bright cherry lipstick paint from her lips.
Acrossing the room Oskar smiled. He carried a look of a young, talented, and looked some what lost, like a cute little boy lost in a field of flowers. Both oskar and Jessie worked together hosting a late night radio show called: 'anyone, anything goes'. A show where anybody can dial the stations number and talk to Jessie on-air, about anything. At the moment the team is having a short advertising break. Oskar smile seeing how Jessie messed up her own makeup. Not a smile of happiness, but one which accompanied a feeling of sorrow. Jessie was hopless. She is 24 of age. She graduated from Clinktown university of literature a year ago. She had like anybody else, felt the fresh cold on a morning of spring. She had smell roses. Yet, she had not seen how that cold bright spring morning looks like. Niether had she seen the beautiful roses. She wass blind from birth.
In Oskar eyes wass Jessie beautiful. Everytime he sat down next to her, not to speak, but just to sit next to her, Jessie would turn around and look at him. He would see her bright blue eyes looking directly deep into his. Behind those lenses, he saw a person. He saw that those eyes are not empty. He felt that Jessie could see, eventhough she was blind. The way she dress, the colour combinations, the color of the flowers she picked up every morning for her teamates, made him think that Jessie was innocent, beautiful and worth protecting. But he had until now kept his feelings sealed, and distance far. He had his own reaons.
A peaker located to the right of Jessie made a loud 'beep' sound. Jessie jumped a little in reaction. She had for a moment been driven away towards her own world of imagination. Oskar approached her fast. He leaned towards her right cheeks and whispered 'We will be on-air in about a minute. Everything ok?'. As expected Jessie swung her head around fast, a thin smile spread gently across her face. 'Yeah...,' she replied. For a moment Oskar caught himself starring deep into Jessies round, watery blue eyes.
Oskar stood up, threw up a 3 fingers sign, indicating to his other teammate that everything was ready.
Music began to fade in. A familair radio intro tune saw Jessie clearing up her throat. Oskar took a sip at his sugar free coke, observing Jessie as she moved closer towards the air-sealed mic. The 'on-air' indicator began to blink, with its read LCD light.
'Welcome back to the 'Anyone, Anything goes' talk'. It is currently 10:30 and you are here with me Jessie at culture-fix radio 93.21Hz. Tune in with us through 2349860432 and we will talk about anything of your interest.'
The annoucement was followed by a quite moment. Oskars whisper 'Klar' could be heard by Jessie through her headphones, indicating that the team had recieved no calls to far. Jessie went on: 'We just have recieved a report fromt he weather sector reporting that the temperature will drop within the next few days. so make sure that you are ready to face this weather. i hope that everyone still remember the stark flu than had brokened away last year. what a chaos that was, nobody wants that to happen again. Here are several tips from our team on how to sruvive this...'. 'Beep beep....beep beep' rang the phone. 'We will carry over first to the call' said Jessie.
Oskar pressed a green button on his control panel board, connecting the call line. 'Hi, i'm Jessie from 'anybody, anything goes tonights show. Welcome.' Jessie recived no reply. 'Hello? if you have called a wrong number please hang up.' Jessies request saw no answer. Oskar knew that the call was still connected so did Jessie. Eventhough she heard no voice, she could still hear the breathing of the character over on the other side of the call. Thin breathing sound, illed and exausted. 'Hello? please speak up or we will have to end this call...' The stationed waited. Joe shook his head and Oskar rested his finger on a red button, ready to end the call.
'wait..' came a voice from the caller. 'Alice...wait...' whispered the caller. It was a whisper. The caller was whispering. Jessie and the others could feel the feel of sickness, athma like whispering of the caller. 'Hi, I'm Jessie. Please speak up. We want to hear you, more importantly other listeners want to hear our conversation too.' Again the wave was empty, no answer. 'wait!' came a sudden reply, a whisper. 'Alice...' to Jessie surprise the voice seemed to have change. She could tell from her trained hearing sense that something was not right and about the sound of this caller. He or she sounded ill, and more importantly unhuman. 'Please speak up. So we can hear you'. 'ahhhaa...' the callers sign brough goosebump to Oskars epidermis. 'We will just have to end this' said oskar. 'No wait, give this person a chance it had only been half a minute. and we don't even know. This person sounds so sick maybe he needs help. Maybe its an emergency call' said Joe.
Feeling uncomfotable, after knwoing that the caller was currently in a unhealthy condition and curious and scared of the uncertainty of the callers voice Jessie asked: 'are you ok? do you need help? is this any emergency call?' The tone of Jessies voice brough over attention from her teammates. Oskar could tell that she was scared. she gazed down at her desk, her eyebrows tightened. 'Don't worry Jessie, its just a call' thought Oskar.
There was a quiet moment, a one of a length. Couples of audio nerds in the room gathered close to each other and Joe was biting on his nails. What is hapenning? Why is Jessie still waiting for the caller? Why can't i just end the call like i usually did with fake callers? thought Oskar. Suddenly, there were sounds. Banging, killing, screaming, dieing, loud sounds blasked through the speakers of the studio and Jessies headphones. Jessie and other team members screamed. Than it was over. Joe found Jessie under her desk, with tears wetted cheeks. 'It's ok...Jessie its ok' said Joe. 'what The fuck was that Oskar' screamed Joe at Oskar. Oskar was still shocked. Both his hands were on his head, he was lost again. 'That was nothing, i did not increase the volume i swear...man...everything was undercontrol here infront of me...oh my god, Jessie are you ok?,' said Oskar. Breathing hard, gasping for air whispered Jessie 'I believe Oskar...' her voice faded away. she looked as if she was drowned under a bath of ice cold water. She was sweating. Her blue eyes starred deep at the floor. Joe was grabbing his head. Oskar sat, leaning against the wall, hands over his face. For a moment everybody was still, nobody said a word. There was silence.
