4. An unexpected encounter

The disgusting smell was getting closer. I could hear footsteps in the distance. Big and loud. I growled instinctively, ready for battle. It was here! I hid behind the rocks and waited for it to reach my line of sight. It was ugly and disgusting and its aura was hideous. What is this thing?! It had a human form, but no face. It was pale and looked slim. Black horns was pointing sideways from the top of his head. His cloths was torn apart as if he had been walking through war or something. It looked around almost as if it was looking for something it had lost. I took a step closer to take a better look. It’s trying to find something, but what?  I was too far away to see. I took another step, but by accident I stepped on a branch.

The thing quickly turned around and jumped five meter up in the air towards me. Shit, what should I do!? I backed away, but not fast enough. I felt something hard hit my face. Two cold claws dug deep into my cheek. Thank you god for my more than necessarily thick skin and fur. I shook my entire body, trying to shake it off, but it ended as a miserable failure. It scraped one of the claws downwards, which made me squeak a bit. In pain, I bit out after the other claw, and by sheer luck, actually hit. Not particularly hard, but hard enough to make it let go. A hot burning feeling reached my cheek, and I felt like screaming. I could see the crimson substance fall onto the ground. The thing that looked like a monster was rolling around on the ground. Probably in pain. I felt surprisingly and weirdly victorious. Though the moment didn’t last too long.

The monster thing had stopped rolling around, and it slowly stood up again. Why didn’t I run? I felt a chill down my spine. The thing now stood completely still. Not moving a single inch, a more than wide smile appeared on the thing’s head. I saw it’s face. It was only for a quick moment, but in that moment, I feel like dying wouldn’t be so bad. My eyes widened. What is happening? Why am I thinking like this? Something was wrong. Definitely. Not even having time to think, I ended up on my back with the thing pinning me down. It took me awhile to figure out what just happened. That little while was very crucial. I felt a cold claw dig into my heart. A little howl of pain came out of my mouth.

NO! I DON’T WANT TO DIE! NOT YET!

I wasn’t sure if I had screamed out loud, and honestly, I didn’t even really care. I knew that the worst was going to happen. I shut my eyes, preparing myself for the immense amount of pain that would come. But it never did. A weird squeaking sound arose. Assuming that it came from the monster thing, I opened my eyes, and what I saw is something that I would never forget. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had never seen anything like it before. Roots? Tree roots? There were roots binding the thing. One around it’s abdomen, and one for each limb too. There were leaves around the roots here and there, and it was as thick as my paw, but the strangest thing was the strange light green glow that surrounded the roots. It made it seem… almost magical. Where are they coming from?

I followed the magical light with my eyes until I reached my big paws. It’s coming from me!? The green glow came from the earth below my golden paws and stretched to the monster. I can’t believe this!? Not only am i a wolf, i’m a magic wolf! I waved my tail out of triumph for not being dead yet, but what should I do now? I could leave it be, but it will probably kill me if I do. I looked closer to the monster. It seemed to be in  pain. I should kill it… I turned away and closed my eyes. Took a deep breath and turned to the black monster again. This is the end for you! I raised my paw, aiming for the thing’s heart, but before I realized it, the water in the lake rose like huge tentacles and pieced the poor monster. My eyes opened wide. It made a loud, hoarse scream of pain. but strangely enough was it smiling. “ Thank you for finally freeing me.” It disappeared along with the water and the roots with those words
