Beauty and the Beast Writing Competition

Get inspired by one of the most romantic stories of all time...

Bonjour! The new live action edition of the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast is just around the corner and that's why we've decided to announce yet another writing competition.

The themes in Beauty and the Beast are just as relevant today as they were 26 years ago when the movie premiered - and even when the fairy tale was published in 1790. It's a timeless story about how appearances can be deceiving and that love is found within. In the movie we learn the importance of believing yourself and the ones you love, and of course it's also about how books and stories can have a healing effect - and that those who tease you for being a bookwork don't know what they're missing, right?

At Movellas, we are preaching these messages every day. And not just because this website is a place with room for flaws, mistakes, diversity, and other oddities. We also see this social site as a place where love can grow - for others and for ourselves.

We hope you all want to celebrate the love we feel for this Disney classic by taking part in the competition!

How to Participate

You have six weeks to write your movella. Your contribution may be a poem, a oneshot, a longer story, a fanfiction, etc. Just choose one of the following options:

Write a movella inspired by the followinq quote: "Bittersweet and strange, finding you can change, learning you were wrong."

Write a movella about feeling like an outsider. Belle dreams about leaving the small town she grew up in, and in turn meeting people who understand her.

Write a movella about loving someone despite their flaws. It's up to you whether the story is going to be about you or another person.

Write a Disney fanfic! You choose the theme and the shape it takes - as long as it's Disney.

More interested in creating your own cover or trailer?
You may also do that, just be sure to state "Cover" or "Trailer" in the title of your entry so that it's clear :) In case you wanted to design a cover, here’s a blog that's also a how-to-guide when it comes to designing covers and the like.
