Other Worlds: Fantasy Writing Competition

Write a fantasy story and have it judged by the incredible Rachel Hartmann.

Another competition, another movella to write, another hundred movellas to read and one of our most exciting judges yet. Random House Children's Books and the incredibly talented Young Adult author Rachel Hartmann have helped us with this one to celebrate the release of Rachel's latest book, Seraphina.

First up, Rachel has kindly published the prologue of the book on Movellas, just to get you in the mood for fantasy, and also blogged about the process of creating worlds and her weirdness budget for us. Once you have devoured all of that, its time to get down to the ins and outs of the competition.

The theme is Other Worlds and the form it takes can be anything - short story to trilogy, epic poem to limerick. The only rule is to fire up your imagination with the strength of an angry dragon and start creating a new and exciting world for your stories backdrop.

As always, anyone (any age, any location) can enter and a shortlist will be made from a combination of likes, favourites, comments and the Movellas team's judgement. To help us with this process we have enlisted Marc of Fantasy Faction, an awesome community site for fans of modern fantasy. Once we have this shortlist, it will be down to Rachel herself to choose the winner (she might even offer up some criticism and feedback if you're lucky!).

There will be copies of the book for the three winners of the contest and a surprise treat for the gold medallist.

On your marks, get set, write!
