~Prologue~

''Zara are you coming to Jonathan's party tonight?'' my friend Katelynn asked me

"no I'm sorry" I replied smiling at her apologetically, she pouted and pushed her thick brown hair to the side

"but Zara! You never come to parties" she told me

"I'm really sorry Katy but something came up, and besides I have to work" I told her and she did her puppy face, luckily I'm immune to her puppy face

"fine then, but you ARE coming on the next party" she said hugging me

"maybe" I replied smiling and she shook her head vigorously making her hair bounce every where

"no you are!" she said and I smiled

"I need to go now, see you tomorrow" I said waving at her before walking off, I couldn't possibly go to a party, I had two little sibling to take care off and besides I still had to go to school plus work. I hurriedly walked to the burger joint that I worked in I'm a waitress there. Shoot! I'm late hopefully my boss won't notice.

"ZARA! LATE AGAIN!" he shouted from behind me and I spun around to face him and his round bright red face, thinking up an excuse.

"I'm really sorry sir, but something came up at school so I had to stay behind" I told him

"yes yes now hurry up Zara we have a lot of customers today" he told me and I nodded before hurrying into the toilet. I stripped out off my normal clothes and wore my waitress outfit, it was a white shirt with the badge of the burger joint on it, with the shirt was a short blue skirt it didn't look too bad. I looked at myself in the mirror, my sleek black hair that reached my mid back was tied in a messy bun. Showing my sharp green eyes, my lips were full and pink and I had a bit of a tan which I liked because tans are good. I had all the curves were they were supposed to be and long legs...I think they are too long. I had the smallest feet you could ever imagine which made it difficult to find shoes my size, I looked at myself one more time before getting out of the cubicle.

"ok Zara you're needed at table ten" Lisa, one of my co-workers said

"okay!" I replied wiping my hands on my skirt and walking towards table ten, at the table there were two people a woman and a boy, the woman was dressed in a suit and had a clip board she looked worried and the male was young around my age, he had all the perfect boy features the brown hair that sat perfectly on his head and the beautiful blue eyes, perfectly shaped lips that any girl would enjoy kissing, a good jaw line and he was well built he was wearing a white shirt showing his six pack and blue jeans, he had a dreamy look on his face he was staring out the window. I cleared my throat and went to stand my the side of their table putting on a cheerful smile

''Hi there welcome to Joe's Burger Joint, I'm Zara and I'll be your waitress this evening'' I said, they stared at me, I started becoming nervous I dont like it when people stare at me. The woman had a smile on her face as she was jotting something down on her clip board and looking at me and the boy was just plain staring at me, I pushed my hair out of face the woman cleared her throat.

''I will have water and a tomato salad and he will have a vanilla milkshake, a beef burger and fries please'' she said to me as I jotted down the order

''your order will be served as soon as possible'' I said before quickly walking away, I hurried into the kitchen to give the order.

'' one tomato salad, one beef burger, fries, water and a milk shake'' I said to the chef and he nodded, while I went back outside

''Zara you also have table 12'' Lisa said and I nodded, and walked quickly to table 12 as I walked back I glanced back at table 10 the woman was whispering something into the boy's ear and looking in my direction...strange.

''Hi there welcome to Joe's Burger Joint, I'm Zara and I'll be your waitress this evening'' I said to the person at table 12, it was a woman there was nothing really extraordinary about her she was wearing sunglasses and a black dress, she had short and straight brown hair. She told me her order and I walked back into the kitchen to give it.

''here's the food for table 10'' the chef said giving it to me in a tray

''thanks'' I replied walking out of the kitchen again and back to table 10

''your food'' I said putting it on the table, before turning around to walk away before they decided that they wanted to stare at me again.

''wait Zara!|if that is your name'' the woman said and I turned around

''yes that's my name'' I said smiling politely at her

''what school do you go to?'' she asked me, what an odd question..I debated over whether to tell her my school or not..I decided against it, she could be a murderer for all I know.

''that's very private information miss, that I'm not allowed to talk about'' I said smiling at her politely again and she smiled back at me...strange I thought she was going to frown seeing that I didnt tell her the name of my school.

''you may leave now'' she told me and I left, that was strange. The rest of the day went on like that, with me hurrying to and fro. It finally got to six o clock..HOME TIME!

''you worked really hard today Zara, you always work hard keep it up'' my boss told me, giving me my monthly pay and I smiled at him

''thank you'' I replied and went back into the toilet to change back into my regular, I gathered my things and walked outside. The cool air greeting me, I hurried made my way to my house, it wasnt much of a house it had three bedrooms one for my father, one for my two younger siblings Jade and Kevin, and the parlour was divided into two with a curtain making one part of it the parlour and the other part the kitchen.

''ZARA!'' Kevin and Jade screamed running to hug me

''KEVIN! JADE!'' I said hugging them and giving them a kiss on the fore head

''now go inside before you catch a cold'' I told them pushing them gently inside, I went out to the back we had a little farm there where I could get all the goods I needed for cooking. I grabbed my straw basket and picked some tomatoes, potatoes, peas and carrots that should be enough fot tonight's dinner. I went inside and into the kitchen to drop my basket, it was too dark so I lit two candles then I went into my dad's room.

''how are you feeling daddy?'' I asked him, my dad had been struck with a terrible sickness sometime last year and we dont have enough money to take him to the hospital, I would do anything to save him.

''dont do that face Zara, I know what that face means'' he said looking at me from his bed, he was so brave. He had to go through all this things yet he was being a good father.

''I'm so sorry dad, Im so sorry that I cant help'' I said to him

''no Zara, you shouldnt be apologising I should, I wish I could give you the child hood that you truly deserve, I really wish I could'' he said and sighed

''but I guess some people arent as luky as others but dont worry Zara something will turn up'' he said smiling at, he still had hope while I had lost mine a long time ago.

''now come and tell me about your day'' he said patting the space next to him, I sat down next to him and began to tell him all about my day.
