Longing for perfection

1. Chapter One

I felt my heart beat faster as I walked into the room. My lips trembled, my hands shook, tears welled up in my eyes.

She lay on the bed, deadly still. Skin grey, eyes closed. Covered in tubes and wires, I didn’t want to look. I took a deep breath, and walked over silently, trying to hold back the tears.

‘Hi Zoe,’ I managed to whisper. She didn’t reply. She was completely motionless.

I felt my throat go dry, my lips go numb. I desperately wanted some kind of miracle. I wanted her to wake up, become her bubbly self again.

‘Come on Zoe. Wake up,’ I thought. ‘We need you. I need you. Don’t leave us.’

But nothing changed. She still lay in that bed, her chest only moving with the help of machines.

I had to leave. I couldn’t bear to see her like this. Her life was hanging in the balance-no one knew if she would live another day. Zoe. My twin sister.
