The rain drops pounded on my window as I laid in my bed, not wanting to wake up. What a wonderful way to start the day, not being able to do anything because it is raining outside. Just my luck. I decided to stay in bed for a couple more minutes but my plan was ruined by my roommate, Laci, bursting through the door.
“good morning,” she sang to me.
I plastered my face into my pillow, pretending to be asleep. Apparently, I wasn’t a very good actress because I heard her smirk from behind me and felt her cold fingers wrap around my ankle. Quickly, she pulled with all her strength and I fell onto the floor, most likely bruising my face.
“go away,” I screamed at her with my very low morning voice.
“Darcy, today’s the perfect day to explore LA. We’ve been here for like a week and I don’t know anyone other then you and quite frankly your boring,” she insulted me, whilst crossing her long, model-like arms across her body.
I quickly shot her a look, knowing she was only joking.
“it’s raining outside. How the hell are we suppose explore LA when we can barely walk out the front door without getting soaked?” I darted back at her.
A huge smile grew across her face as she walked across my room, making her way to my closet.
“that’s the fun of it Darc!” she screamed at me, while looking through my clothes.
I finally got up from the floor and stumbled over to her, still half asleep. She had already picked out an outfit for me and quickly scurried over to my bed, to lay the clothes down.
“now this is has LA written ALL over it,” she said referring to the clothes. She was very pleased with herself, It was written all over her face.
My eyes scanned the clothes, feeling my face grow a disgusted look. She must’ve noticed my reaction right away.
“ugh, you’re no fun Darc,” she told me while walking to the doorway.
“what?” I replied sarcastically, not really intrigued with her little pity party she was having.
“you’re in a new town, with new people and new places,” she began, “stop being so abiding and try to live a little.” and with that she slammed the door and stomped away.
I had only known this girl for a week and already learned she had the IQ of a genius. Over the past week she had yelled at me probably 10 times and every time she used a word I had never learned or heard in my entire life. Although she was smarter then both of my parents put together, she hated showing it. I didn’t know why and wasn’t planning on asking anytime soon.
Defeated, I dragged my feet over to my bed and looked at the outfit once more. She had picked out something my sister gave me for my last birthday. A tank top that was skin tight around my chest but instantly flowed out past my waist, with a huge great Britain flag on it. I could still hear my sisters voice from when she gave it to me. “England has all the cute boys!” my sis had told me. I found it funny I had chosen LA over moving to England, despite my sister’s warning.
I decided for Laci’s sake I would wear the shirt but I wasn’t very pleased with the shorts she had chosen. I had more fabric on my purse then these but like she said I had to come out of my bubble sometime right? And as for the shoes, don’t even get me started. She wanted me to wear heels. I hadn’t worn heels since my eighth grade graduation and even then I wasn’t so fond of the idea. I sighed, walking out of my room, feeling uncomfortable and totally vulnerable but as soon as Laci saw me her eyes lit up.
“you look absolutely ravishing,” she said in awe.
Even though I didn’t really know what ravishing meant I sill blushed and murmured thank you. Laci’s attention redirected to the door as she yanked my wrist over to it, excited to finally go out.
“today is going to be perfect,” she promised me.
“alright,” I said, still unsure about the whole thing but what’s the worst that could happen?
