Miss Stevenson droned on about the Battle of Dunkirk whilst my class rested their heads on their desks, begging for their worst lesson to end.
I listened, fascinated as she described the brave soldiers waiting up to their necks in the cold sea, praying for rescue boats to come to save them so that they would avoid a horrible end.
"Large ships were unable to approach them because of the shallow waters so instead they used small boats that were generously giving to them..." Miss Stevenson explained, changing onto the next slide to show a complicated looking map.
I sat up straighter as she described the men's relief as they saw boats in the distance. I didn't know why I just found it so interesting; History was everyone's least favourite subject and they dreaded the mornings when they saw History on their timetable. So it was strange for me to like it.
But that's what I am...strange.
A sharp object hit the back of my head, so I turned round and glared at the immature idiot behind me. Shaun was the class clown, everyone thought that he was hilarious. I thought that he was pathetic and childish.
"What?" I snapped.
"You alright babe?" Shaun snickered and was followed by the giggles of The Clowns around him.
"No I'm not, now leave me alone."
"You are already alone, you loner."
"You're so funny I forgot to laugh."
"Grace will you turn round please?" Miss Stevenson asked, impatiently.
I rolled my eyes at Shaun who was clearly failing to mimick me and turned round to the board. The class continued to giggle behind me, but I decided that they weren't worth my time and ignored them.
As the buzzer sounded for the end of class I carefully put my books and stationary back into my backpack and got up to leave. I frowned as Shaun got up to follow me.
He sneered, "Hey loner, you might want to check your back."
My hand searched my back frantically and ripped off the post-it that was stuck to it. I glared at his childish but clear handwriting;
Grace the Geek.
