I lay in bed staring up at the ceiling.
So far everything was normal. Everything was quiet.
It wouldn't last.
The bedside clocked showed 11:58. I shivered in anticipation. At 12:00 the voice would come and the normal, peaceful night would become plagued with fear and confusion.
I didn't know who they were? I didn't even know if it was someone. For all I know, it could just be me going crazy. But something told me it wasn't that. Something told me it was supernatural...
12:00am.
I fell silent, hardly daring to breath.
The silence droned on, starting to sound like a ringing in my ear.
Maybe they weren't going to show up tonight.
Hello Abby.
That was too much to hope for.
Have you considered what I asked you to do yesterday?
I swallowed and didn't reply.
Oh come on Abby, I know you can hear me. Let me remind you what I asked you to do. I need you to find that necklace for me.
"What's so special about the necklace anyway?" I found myself asking.
That's not important right now. Maybe if you agree to find it i'll feel more inclined to telling you.
I sighed. I didn't want to do anything the voice asked, but I found myself thinking about saying yes. It couldn't hurt, could it? But why this necklace?
"Who are you?" I asked for the ninth night in a row, but still knowing it wouldn't answer.
Again, that's not important right now.
"I just want to know if you're real or if i'm going crazy." I whispered.
Locate the necklace and you'll find out.
I hesitated. I really wanted to ignore the voice and just go to sleep. It was bad enough dreaming about my dead boyfriend and his accident every night, without having to talk to a voice in my head on top of that.
"Fine!" I gasped. "But I don't remember where I threw it."
Immediately I regretted my decision.
The necklace was mine. Why should I listen to the voice? Besides, nobody else I know has a creepy, whispering in their head. Anyway, the necklace was special to me. Although my boyfriend is dead, I still love him. I treasure anything that reminds me or holds memories of him. True love never dies. Before I had a chance to state my thoughts, the voice buts in...
Good, i'm so glad you're going to help. I have a faint idea of where it is but not an exact location. I'm going to look around and get back to you. I'll talk to you soon.
I breathed deeply in and out. The voice was going, for now at least. It never went this early.
We're going to have so much fun.
I felt it leave my head.
I frowned. The voice had said it was going to 'look around'. An uneasy smile settled on my face.
I wasn't crazy. The voice belonged to someone, or something.
No, I wasn't crazy...
