Blurb This poem is about racism. I am English, so I'm not saying English people really have funny voices. It's about a girl from England who moves to America but is bullied because of her accent there.

The New Girl

1. The New Girl

She came into the classroom,

While we were doing Math.

That was when she spoke,

And we began to laugh.

She had a funny voice,

All posh like a queen.

She seemed so prim and proper,

All pale, long, and lean.

We called, "Little Princess",

And said, "You're not cool."

Did bad impressions of her,

Everyday at school.

No one sat with her at lunch,

Just a table, on her own,

And if she tried to sit with us,

We'd only let out a moan.

It was in English, one day,

She had to do a speech.

There she stood, shaking,

Like a tiny, baby leech.

Guilt did overcome us,

When she bravely said,

"I'll do a speech on England,

'Cause that's where I was bred."

At the end of that, we had,

To smile and only clap,

For it was only natural,

What came out of her trap.

So, ladies and gentlemen,

We have a lesson here,

Accents aren't to be teased about,

Our rhyme ends here.
