 Focus-- Is This Really Necessary?

There are always some events in your stories that you love.

I'm sorry, but you're going to have to say goodbye to some.

 

So you're in the stage of editing your story. You are reading through your story, and you see a questionable part of your story. You really, really, really love it and don't want to get rid of it, but you don't know whether to keep it in or not. 

This article is to help ya'll out there that are having this problem. Answer the questions below to see whether you should keep it in or not.

 

Question One: Is this a major event?

Yes: Then stop answering these questions and keep it in!

No: Alright, progress to question two.

 

Question Two: Does this event help the main character develop in any way?

Yes: It'd be wise to keep it in and stop answering these questions.

No: Onto question three for you.

 

Question Three: Would it be considered boring, tacky, or filler to anyone but the author?

No: Alright, question four.

Yes: Unless you are intending it to be this way, say bye-bye to it and don't answer any more questions.

 

Question Four: Does it distract from the storyline?

No: Then, if it's passed the test! You should keep this event in!
Yes: Say goodbye to it.
