The Movellas author of the month for August is...
Our writer has mumbled many humorous, helpful, and interesting messages we've loved to read. He writes action/adventure stories too, thrilling movellas that are worth reading and sharing if you get the chance to check them out! He's co-authored stories with authors here, helped design a number of competitions, and is known for drawing, gaming, and whole bunch of other cool stuff. This movellian may be newer to our community here at Movellas, but he has left quite the impression.
Here he is known for his sense of humor, brilliant ideas when it comes to writing, and engrossing action-packed movellas that keep us reading more. We're excited to announce that the Movellas' Author of the Month is ♠ Aldrin ♠. Below is our interview with him where we learned a whole lot more about the person behind the profile. We're happy to say that the Author of the Month for August 2016 is...
How did I start writing on Movellas? Wow... this goes way back. I had a first account that I made so that me and a friend could write a story we had been brewing up for a while together. Then I started to get more involved and write my own stories that... well unfortunately, people found them online and teased me for them, so I shut the account down and went into hiding till they all lost interest. Came back as a new account, this current one, and have been on ever since, not really worrying about people seeing my writing anymore. So there's something for you people; if people make fun of your stories, ignore 'em. You write what you want! Don't be a coward like I was.
Which three words best describes you?
Three words... now that's tough... ECK! There's so many! Well first is "Nerdy" because for God's sake, I am! But I hold that title with pride like a rank!
Hmmm... What else could I say I am... Perhaps "creative"? Yes, creative. I always like to be creative with my drawings and writing, thinking up new ideas and original plans. "Original"... Yeah, that fits well too actually! I mean well... I try to be as original as I can; trying to never follow the sheep and go down my own path of life.
Where do you find inspiration for your writing?
Oh everywhere. Mostly videos, movies, games – all sorts. I love seeing "new" characters, in personality, strengths, weaknesses and/or story, and they usually get me riled up to write. Such as the YouTube video "Overwatch Animated Short - "Dragons" got me so inspired to write a little story of my own. I recommend that video, by the way. Plot twists as well get me inspired. One of my most worked on Movellas, 'The Unquiet Dead' was based around an idea in the plot that I thought about whilst playing a game! Building my own worlds does as well. I like making universes of my own, because two are never the same.
Who is your favorite author (outside of Movellas) and what are you reading these days?
Ummm... Eeee... Ah... I'm not a massive reader of books... Actually, hardly at all. I've read The Hobbit and that's about it, in my entire lifetime. However! If I had to pick an author, I'd say George R.R. Martin. Now whilst I have never read the books of 'A Song of Ice and Fire', and am just a fan of 'Game of Thrones' the TV series, I've heard that man talk about his books, and he is incredible. And looking at the characters on screen, he is a master at developing them. Never before have I looked at a character thinking "Wow... This guy is a horrible man, yet I don't see him as a villain and I love him." Martin tries to make his characters "human", in his own words. There's good and bad in us all. An evil or good character is good or evil for a reason.
But a book I am reading these days?... Mm... I guess I read 'Kursk 1943: The Tide Turns in the East' by Mark Realy. A book about the Battle of Kursk in the Second World War. "BOOORRRIIIING!!" I hear you say, but I find it fascinating. Love my history so much. And I have read The Chaos, The Space Marine and The Tau Codexes of the Warhammer 40,00 tabletop game. They have really interesting lore concepts and characters.
What are you writing at the moment?
At the moment, I am mainly focusing on writing my 'The Big Book of Mythological Creatures' story. It's gotten very unexpectedly popular, and is the third in the series of "Big Books" as I like to call them. The first was 'The Big Book of Dragons' and the second was 'The Big Book of Demons' which I both co-authored, however 'The Big Book of Mythological Creatures' is all written by me.
The 'Big Book' series is meant to be a... fictional and factual book about the subject its based around. Each chapter, for example, in the 'Big Book of Dragons', I or my co-author wrote about a different dragon, usually from pop culture like games, movies and stories. We just explained them in detail and their different tropes. Yet the reason why I love writing 'The Big Book of Mythological Creatures' is because it is a manual written by a character called Egan-Blackmouth in a world where all mythological creatures live in the same universe. She writes a new chapter about each creature she studies for her field guide of cryptozoology, like Unicorns, Dragons, Minotaurs etc. And each creature has their own lore based around the myth they came from in our world. It's hard to explain, but if you read it, you'll understand.
Which one of your Movellas would you recommend others to read? Please include a couple lines about the movella in describing why
So of course, go check out the 'Big Book of Mythological Creatures' because I love to write it, but the other story I recommend is 'The Unquiet Dead'.
'The Unquiet Dead' is a book I have been working on and planning for a long, long time. It's hit a blank spot at the moment, but I enjoyed writing and planning it. It's about a warrior who has been risen from the grave of an ancient battlefield to fulfill his duty and destiny to a dying kingdom. He must fight the evil that infests the land, and bring down their invasion. It's mostly based around religions I created, about Gods of Light, Death, Blood etc. and all of the lore is created by me. I'm even making a language within it! However, there is a catch in the story that I have not written yet, but I won't spoil it for you. So go check that out, give it some good ol' CC and I might continue it.
A big thank you for all your writing, commenting, and awesome mumbling ♠ Aldrin ♠
