It’s Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK and month in the US.
Movellians, let’s show our support!
Today marks the start of Mental Health Awareness week in the UK, which runs until the 22nd of May. Every year, thousands of supporters across the UK take part in Mental Health Awareness Week and, along with our partner Young Happy Minds, we are going to join them.
This year the theme of Mental Health Awareness week is relationships. Research suggests that the quality of your social relationships is the most important predictor of happiness. Very practical things that you can do to improve your relationships is:
- Do kind things for others. Maybe try out a Random Act of Kindness. Open the door for someone, leave a note on a neighbour's car saying “have a great day”.
- Express gratitude. Tell those who are close to you how grateful you are to them. This is honestly such a small, but impactful thing to do.
- Be more mindful and present in conversations. When someone tells you something good, respond with questions, get them to re-live the experience.
- Smile at someone. Smiling is contagious.
You could also join our 3 Good Things writing competition. You can join anytime during the month of May. It helps to turn this into a habit, so why not try writing 3 Good Things at the end of every day throughout Mental Health Awareness Week, whether you’re in the UK or not. Again research shows that participants doing this practice for 1 week increased happiness and decreased depressive symptoms for 6 months. What have you got to lose? People who are grateful tend to be happier, healthier, and more fulfilled and this can only be good for relationships.

We’d also encourage you to share your 3 Good Things on social media and tag @movellas @younghappyminds and @mentalhealth using the hashtag #MHAW16.
