Movellas Launches Partnership with Young Happy Minds On International Day of Happiness!by Skye S, Saturday March 19, 2016
Join the challenge and spread the happiness
Tomorrow marks the 4th annual International day of Happiness, created by the UN. We could think of no better day to announce our official partnership with Young Happy Minds, a social enterprise whose vision is to get wellbeing valued as highly as academic success.
You may remember we ran a competition last year with Young Happy Minds where we worked together to reframe Mental Health Awareness Week to #WhatMakesYouHappy week. We had some wonderful entries from many of you Movellians :-) Now that we’re officially partners, we will be running many more activities with our friends, starting today.
Young Happy Minds work with young people to improve their own wellbeing by sharing practical tools and techniques from the field of positive psychology. To celebrate the 4th International Day of Happiness, we would love you invite you to participate in some of the exercises and experiments that Young Happy Minds promote.
You have a choice to do any or all of the following tasks:
1. Write down 3 things that you are grateful for and why? Studies have traced a range of impressive benefits to the simple act of writing down the things for which we’re grateful, which include better sleep, fewer symptoms of illness, more creativity and more happiness.
2. Carry out a random act of kindness. Open the door for someone, leave a thank you note for someone, or pay someone a compliment. Research has shown that the positive energy that you feel from doing a good deed can act on your body in much the same way that exercise does, releasing endorphins that make you feel good naturally. That's why the "rush" that good deed-doers sometimes experience after performing an altruistic act is referred to as the "helper's high."
3. Take time to notice. How often do you stop to notice the beauty in the world around you? Take time to stop, breathe, and appreciate. Maybe you’ll see something on your way to the shop that you never noticed before. Maybe you'll notice that you’re breathing ;-) Learning to be mindful and more aware does wonders for our wellbeing too. Try taking 3 deep breaths before doing a mundane task. How does it feel to be present?
4. Choose your own happy hack. Do something that you know makes you happy :-)
We would love you to tell us about what you’ve done to take part in the #InternationalDayOfHappiness by posting in mumbles, in the comments section under this blog post, and by sharing on facebook, twitter, and instagram. Be sure to tag @Movellas @younghappyminds and @actionhappiness and include the hashtag #InternationalDayOfHappiness
Not that you need an incentive to take part as the reward will be obvious, but our friends at Young Happy Minds will be giving away some prizes to some of their favourite entries. Dont’ be shy, get involved and say hi :-)
