It's chilly & bright
Can anyone guess where I am?
New Years has come and gone and we've moved on to a sunny and bright 2016. I am in a chilly, frosty place that I've been before. This time, I'm being reminded that at some point winter will end - just not any time soon! The great thing about the New Year is that what starts off as the end of something great starts again with an entirely new beginning :-)
Now that I find myself revisiting "old haunts," as they say, certain things come to mind that weren't so much in my thoughts before. And all the snow! It's hard to imagine but you forget just how much it snows in this part of the U.S. Brrrr!
As for the city, it's dark and snowy but bustling with buses and taxi cabs. The buildings are much like any other city, only with foggy windows from the cold and eaves brimming with icicles. The below freezing temperatures do not stop street vendors from selling paper parcels of greasy (but delicious) tacos, cones of frozen yogurt, and endless hotdogs and salty pretzels. Cafés situated on every other corner are serving oversteeped coffee and other powdered treats.
In spite of all this cold, many of the taxis you will find downtown are driven by bicycle! I've spent some years here, but this evening it feels much colder than I remember and a short bike ride in this chill seems like a much better idea than walking...
I'm writing this blog post to give you a glimpse into some of what I'm seeing. A mountainous horizon, wind-warped streets, and this absurdly big, blue bear. A bear you say, and why blue? That's just part of today's blog mystery :-)
Can anyone guess where I am? Here's some hints:
- Yes, I'm in the U.S.
- It's super cold
- Not exactly sea level
- I've been here before...
- It's a capital city
Any guesses so far? I hope the bear doesn't give it away ;-)
Before I know it, I'll be back in the (somewhat less) icy place I now call home. Until then, wishing you all the best,
