Interview with Jess N

Hi, I'm your new Community Manager!

About me

I’m Jess N and as you might have noticed, I’m the new Community Manager on Movellas. I’m from the U.S., my family is from Mexico, and I live in Denmark, so I’m just all over the map. I know that after Georgia, I've got some big shoes to fill and I do hope I live up to expectations. I'd like to take this moment to emphasize, however, that I am not Georgia and I might have different ways of handling things than she did. Like Georgia, I will always have the community's best interests at heart!  Alright, so rather than write a boring intro blog about myself, I took some questions from users, hoping that you would get to know me better that way.

What was it that encouraged you to want to work for Movellas?

I love fiction (both reading and writing it), I studied English Lit, and I wanted to work with social media. Being a Community Manager for a site dedicated to fiction writing is basically a dream job.

What has been your favourite part of Movellas so far?

The people, of course! The community is honestly just so great and full of talented writers. It doesn’t hurt that I can fangirl to my heart’s content without judgement.

Would you give up your internet connection to go to Hogwarts?

Heck yeah! Who needs internet when I can learn how to charm my dishes to clean themselves. (I’m looking at you, Mrs. Weasley)

If so, which house would you be in?

Probably Hufflepuff, because can’t we all just get along?

What inspired you to start writing?

I’ve always written a bit here and there, like bad poetry in 6th grade and even worse scifi stories in the 8th grade. To answer the question, it wasn’t until I moved to Europe that I realized it was my passion. There’s something about being a complete outsider in a new country that really sparks my inspiration.

What's your favorite book/author?

Gah, don’t make me choose just one! If you’re twisting my arm, I guess I would have to say The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. I got it for my 12th birthday and that was my first taste of serious literature. It’s pretty graphic though, and I don’t think I really got it at 12 years old, so I can’t say I’d recommend it to the younger readers out there. Toni Morrison really is my hero though. I even wrote my Master’s thesis on one of her novels. Yeah, I'd say she's also my favorite author.

How did you find Movellas?

There was a flyer somewhere advertising an internship with Movellas. I decided to check it out and create an account. After that, I knew I would either become a writer on Movellas or work here. I guess we know which one it turned out to be!

What's your favorite genre to read?

I used to like literary fiction with lots of realism, but my tastes have been changing lately. I’m getting more into Fantasy and Adventure.

What's your favorite genre to write?

Same as my previous answer. I’ve been trying my hand at an Adventure/Fantasy story lately and it’s been pretty fun so far! It might be a new favorite of mine.

Do you have any pets?

Nope, but if I could, I’d have a dog, a cat, and a parrot.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Is eating a hobby? If I ever won the lottery, I would take a world tour of food and just travel different places and eat. In the meantime, I like to go to food markets to enjoy the displays of food and maybe grab a taco or a chocolate eclair. *drool*

I also like to bake and, of course, write stories.

P.S./ Yes, those are cookies I baked myself in the banner image and yes, I was eating them for breakfast.

Thanks Omissa and Moosey for providing the questions!
