Join in with #KINDNESSDAY inspired by Wonder
Kindness Day is inspired by the bestselling novel Wonder by R J Palacio, a story of kindness, acceptance and friendship. Read an extract of Wonder here. Follow the #KINDNESSDAY twitter trail that was started on the 1st of June to be inspired by this amazing project. Kindness Day is a partnership between Penguin Random House and The Diana Awards Anti-bullying Campaign.
The aim of Kindness Day is to inspire adults and children across the UK to celebrate kindness. From The Diana Award’s Anti-Bullying Campaign’s last report of 4,891 young people, 57% of young people say they have experienced bullying. Out of 418 staff members 80% say there is a bullying problem in their school.
Wonder has been published as both an adult and children’s book and has sold in 38 territories across the world. It has sold over half a million copies in the UK alone and continues to be a #1 New York Times bestseller. Film rights to WONDER have been sold to Lionsgate with a film due for release in 2016.
Author R J Palacio comments ‘I love the idea of a national Kindness Day. Over the last few years I have been blown away by reader’s reactions to Wonder, Auggie’s story has been life changing not only for me but for millions of adults and children around the world who understand this really isn’t just a book about a kid with a facial anomaly: it’s a celebration of kindness. The idea of having one day where everyone can take time to think about kindness and celebrate those who are kind is truly inspiring.’
