Everything You Need to Know About the Upcoming Harry Potter Films

We unravel the many mysteries of the Fantastic Beasts movies

For anyone in need of little recap, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' first appears in the Harry Potter universe in 'The Philosopher's Stone'; a Magizoology textbook by Newt Scamander on Hogwarts' required reading list. Way back in 2001, J.K. Rowling  made Potterheads' dreams come true when she released the whole textbook, in aid of Comic Relief, so that even if your letter from Hogwarts never arrived, you could still learn all there is to know about the magical creatures of the wizarding world!

Fast-forward to 2013, and just as fans were beginning to despair at the gaping Harry Potter void left after both film and book series ended, Warner Bros. broke the thrilling news that that a series of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' films were on the cards. Best of all? J.K. Rowling herself would be heavily involved in the process, marking her screenwriting debut.

The films will follow the adventures of the book's fictious author Newt Scamander, beginning in 1920s New York. As this suggests, it's unlikely that any of our fave Harry Potter characters will be making an appearance (sob), but we can't wait to see Rowling's magical world expand ever further.

In the last week, excitement has been ignited all over again, with a series of cryptic tweets from J.K Rowling (later revealed to be an anagram which translates as 'Newt Scamander only meant to stay in New York for a few hours'). Then came the news that the film series would be 'at least' a trilogy, leaving fans as excited as freshly caught Cornish blue pixies.

So, what else do we know? Well, producer of all eight Harry Potter movies David Heyman is on board with the project, and so is the director of the final four films David Yates. For fans of the films, this is a big plus -'Fantastic Beasts...' is sure to retain the charm of the original franchise, hurrah!

The only downside? We have to wait until 2016 to find out how the first 'Fantastic Beasts...' installment turn out. So go and console yourself with some of our fab Harry Potter fanfics.
