Loved the books? Hated the movie? We’ve got some intriguing news for you...
Calling all Cassandra Clare fans! Constantin Film, the team behind ‘The Mortal Instruments’ film adaptation have announced that they will reinvent the franchise for an upcoming TV series. For fans of the books, this news is a mixed blessing.
On one hand, the film totally flopped, so fans are understandably a little apprehensive of this new development. But on the other, this could be the perfect opportunity to respond to and rectify the flaws from the first adaptation.
Head of Constantin, Martin Moszkowicz is confident that the change of medium, from film to TV will make a dramatic difference. He explained to THR that “there was so much from the book that we had to leave out of the Mortal Instruments film. In the series we’ll be able to go deeper and explore this world in greater detail and depth.”
But any further dirt on this new series is shrouded in mystery -there’s no telling whether we’ll get a brand new cast and no network details have been released. According to The Daily Telegraph, production is expected to begin in 2015, so watch this space.
But how is author Cassandra Clare reacting to the news? In response to fans’ questions on Twitter, she’s kept fairly neutral, but did remark that ‘TV shows are great for books that have ton of backstory, which TMI does’, and that she’s ‘excited’ for the franchise to ‘get a second chance’. Guess we’ll have to wait and see!
