‘He has the ability to turn the entire nation into a wreck with just one story’by Eva84, Sunday June 29, 2014
@Chloe_123_x explains the power of John Green
'You laugh, you cry, and then you come back for more.' That's how Markus Zusak, author of The Book Thief, described a certain book.
Who has the power to make us feel all these different emotions at once? Who has the ability to turn the whole nation into a wreck, with the help of a single story?
Only John Green could do this to us.
He has touched the hearts of many with the beautiful and powerful tales he writes. His stories are truly remarkable; they get to us in a way no other book could. We are introduced to positive role models, and we cry with them; laugh with them. He captivates his readers instantly, before launching into another heartfelt story.
John writes with a sense of humour, but he uses a tone and voice we would understand. His characters all develop personalities that some of us fall head over heels in love with (not looking at anyone in particular, Augustus Waters), and often leaves us distraught by taking them away again.
My personal favourite is The Fault in Our Stars, a stunningly realistic yet beautiful tale of two teenagers with cancer who fall in love. I won’t give anything more away, but I warn you; get the tissues ready.
In my eyes, John Green is one of the most extraordinary authors out there today. His stories are suitable for both young and old, and are almost guaranteed to have you in tears by the end. He is inspiring, and his works are a reminder that there is always something positive in life, no matter how big or small.
The Fault In Our Stars is in UK cinemas from June 19
